I noticed a few days ago a groaning/growling coming from the engine area. Turns out it’s the compressor when it engages. The weird thing is I don’t seem to hear it when driving only when I’m at a stop and it engages. Is this the entire compressor going out or the clutch assembly?

I’m hoping it’s just the clutch assembly because you can buy the kit cheaper than getting a new compressor.

You guys should just replace the compressor. It's work to replace the clutch and if it doesn't take care of it you are out of time and money that you could had put towards a new assembly. Denso AC compressors are cheap enough.

I'm facing the same thing Chris. My silver '06 has a lot of noise/rattling from the compressor. Not a job I'm looking forward to, even though I can evacuate and recharge it myself.

Mine started doing it I'd say within 30,000 miles and still does. Sounds kinda wonky for a while as it goes on and off. Would love to know if its a problem.

Same here. The AC works perfect . It’s super cold. I just don’t want it to lock up if it’s a problem.

Mine does the same thing. It started probably around 70k, AC works well although I think the blower in these trucks is a little weak. My ac compressor has been in water a couple times though so I am not too surprised.
