I had one board of chestnut and made some checker pieces, spoons and stirring sticks. It’s amazingly strong if you follow the grain

Made my first set of real dice today. Inking needs a bit of improvement but overall good balanced dice. Pretty happy with how they came out for a first go round. They're Arizona Tea themed

Finally finished up some dog agility things for my wife. Forgot I hadn't painted the prototype. And I might add some spacers/shims so the upright poles have less play.

Work in progress. Really need to get a workbench to mount the saw to. And another to work at a more ergonomic level. Not really a hobbyist or woodworker so don’t flame for minor things ;)

wine shelf/rack for a closet. Can’t do wall mount due to most of my plumbing running through there and don’t want to risk it. Can’t find a store bought for decent price to give us more than 20bottle space to fit in this closet (most are too deep). Water main shutoff is also in this closet to building to fit around that. Closet it pretty deep so making it L shaped and will have some wasted corner space once I add a top to it later.

    cool

(maybe put some kind of diagonal on the back, so your rack can’t, um, rack when it’s loaded)

He means diagonals. Diagonals, or a sheet of wood, will prevent it from collapsing like a row of dominoes under load.

‘racking’ is the domino effect mentioned. A diagonal brace, corner triangles, corner braces, or a whole sheet on the back will stabilize it.

your current build is all pieces at right angles, or....

a bunch of pivots with little or no ‘lateral’ rigidity.

Could also put a gusset in each corner if it's racking. Not sure what the wood working term is.

gotcha. Will take a look to see what I can do. I had that with one of the middle parts for the rack but 2 screws per corner fixed it. I may just use a piece of plywood since I have to buy a whole sheet anyhow. I do like the corner idea suggested, I have a spot I could incorporate that without it being in way of bottles.

progress update: 1st one is done short of anchoring the middle pieces to my frame. Want to stain it all first and leave my front frame to stain last. Thoughts on using wood filler of some sort over my countersunk screws? I used the countersunk but on em all but torn on how filling and staining will look.
