meh im a 2wd but im planning on maybe putting tundra rims on later ... i already have bigger tires than stock, i cant remeber what the door sticker on my truck says but it has 235/75/15s on it .... i figure with it having 4:10s vs my old truck slightly bigger rims / tires wont mess me up too bad

As others have said, it's how you want to use your truck. Their money...

For me, my truck is a farm truck. I haul hay and feed and pick things up from the store etc.. It's got 31's on it now and in need of new tires. I'll be going back with the stock tires when I replace them. No need for anything bigger for me.

The things required to pull bitches
You know that saying about tires...

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

I went with 33's to gain a little ground clearance, You can see the bottom of my diff has scrapped on rocks and ruts. same with my cross member. If I can I'd be running 35's but I'll regear and go LT first before I go 35's

I know out here I am snow driving backcountry daily and I run 265 70 17s with no issues at all. I don't baby mt truck as it's sole purpose is to get us in the back country and back out safe. But at the same time I have no issues with that tire size and it looks great. I air down to 10lbs or 15 and I make it through everything. I have a buddy who runs 35s and all it seems to do is get him stuck deeper. The only thing he has over me is rock crawling but if I wanted to do that I would throw on my fivetens and chalk up lol. If ur paying for it enjoy! That's what's working for me

if your going to put bigger tires on and then bitch about it you need to be back handed...
now if you actually wheel or drive in conditions where you need it they are a must plus i want my truck to reflect me and my taste i dont wanna have the same truck as some other person so putting bigger tires on helps the look im trying to achieve with my truck.
kinda seems like you are just putting down bigger tires in general witch is kinda ridiculous since alot of the guys on here have lifted trucks or bigger tires.
    just my 2 cents..

figured you may like this pic .... completly stock ifs rig locked rear open front on 31" bighorns aired down to 4 psi ... the guy lived back there and drives the road all season to keep it driveable cause it doesnt get plowed, he said he laughs at all the "flatland" guys who come up to play in the snow and are getting stuck in way more capable rigs.

i'd just like to point out that my plans for my truck include 3", fiberglass fenders and 35's, front and rear bumpers , goodbye gas mileage, but oh well , 35's are gonna keep me out of the ruts that 90% of the trucks around here running 33's are making

I've got 35x12.50's on my 01 DC Tacoma, I get asked all the time what my gas miliage is, I tell most people that if I cared I wouldn't of put the bigger tires on... But, I know what my mpg is most of the time.

lol I've been contemplating going to 235/85/16 next. Same height as 265/75/16 same weight-ish higher load capacity only available in load range E  But narrower could potentially give better milage. But they will ride rougher and might look funny

It's been around 15 the last few fill ups, but if I'm doing a lot of city driving, and "getting on it", I'll get around 12-13! Haha

It's better then my old Jeep TJ with 4.0l and 33's, I only got about 10mpg! But, like I said, doesn't bother me much because I knew what I was getting in too, plus it pays off when going offroad!!!

3" lift Up front(Donahoe Racing ext. travel coil overs, Camburg UCA's), 1.5-2" lift in the back(aal and some billy 10" stroke short bodies), Bushwhacker Cut-Out fender flairs, 16"x10" Procomp Street locks, and 305/70 Procomp X-Terrains.
If you get bigger tires without re-gearing you can get better mpgs. It just depends on if you drive on the highway or in the city. If you get like 17 city, 20 highway and you go with bigger tires, not past 12.5" wide, you will get like 15 city and 23 highway.

How this works: The tire is covering more ground per revolution slowing down take off(making it harder), and allowing you to cruse 70 around 1.5 or 2 thousand RPMs.

And opposite with smaller tires. If you go with a smaller tire without re-gearing it will increase the the take off(making it easier). Making your city driving MPGs a lot better, but your highway MPGs will go down, because the tire is covering less ground than usual. Ultamitly causing you to cruse at 70 mph with 3 or 3.5 RPMs possibly more.

    Hope this helps!

yes but then you have to take into account that your truck won't be able to maintian top gear on some inclines so then you have to give more throttle or downshift eating more fuel. It all depends on tread pattern too. If you go from an all season to and all terrain of the same size you will see a fuel economy hit. On the other hand if you go from an all terrain to a bigger all season you might see an improvement. There are too many factors to accurately make this statement.

    no truck now :(
So they'd be something like what I'm running with 255/85/16.. taller tire (almost 34" brand new) but much narrower compared to the 285s. I personally like the look, but keep in mind I'm also running ProComp rims with 4.5" backspacing, which pushes the tires out to where they just peak out from under the fenders, giving the Taco a "wider" looking stance. It doesn't look all that bad from the front/rear either.. even with the narrower tire.

Here's what it looks like from a front-sorta-side-ish view... :)
(and the other truck is my friend's Bowtie 2500HD.)

I am just speaking from experience. My brother went from stock (31x10.5r 15 LTX M/Ss) tires to 305/70r16 pro comp Xterrains (my tires btw) and he is getting like 23mpg highway (calculated it on a trip to North Carolina) and 15 mpg around ware we live.

I do it for offroading. I personally think mall crawlers are fucking retarded for putting big tires on and not going offroading. No use to buy huge ass tires and not actually use them.
