He has since moved on to a Camry and then back to a Silver Tacoma. Any lift over 2" is going to pretty much require UCA's, not to mention a plethora of other items to stamp out vibes, hums and other items.

With the 285/75/17’s (34’s), I never took it anywhere too serious, I would get a small amount of rub on the frame sometimes.

I could get it up to the speed limit and beyond with no problems, but it took a bit to get there. I live in a very flat area.


Currently have the V6 4WD, I won’t be doing the extreme this time. It’s a daily driver and needs to be able to perform as such. May stick to 265/75/16’s (32’s) this time around.

Thanks for the reply! I'm on the fence between 265/285. Starting over with a 2.7 Tacoma after selling a vehicle that had 35's and was a bit too much to maintain because of all the components. Sounds like, in order to maintain the longevity of the vehicle, 265 might be my best bet. Though I'm adding a small 1 - 1.75" lift, I was mostly worried about having my Taco sit higher and having small tires (265) Definitely don't want to relive the same thing with my 2.7 Access cab as I did with a bigger more modified vehicle.

 

Ive been stacking parts for the new 2021 SR, already purchased the Toytec adjustable CO’s, rear shocks, JBA UCA’s (still waiting) and a used set of SCS 16x8 wheels. It will be lifted, but I hope to keep it a bit more simple this time. The Nitto 285/75/17’s on my old Tacoma weighed 65 lbs each.

I’m looking at the Nitto Ridge Grappler 265/75/16 116T at 49lbs and the Goodyear Duratrac 265/75/16 C at 45lbs each. The SCS 16x8 wheels are 21lbs. Really trying to focus on the rotational weight this time around.

My daily drive is 50 miles round trip, gas is cheap right now, but who knows next year and I’m really trying to not go nuts this time around, lol.

 

Regarding the weight, I've been hesitant on changing my rim/tire combo. Naturally, I like the TRD fake Beadlock rims, wrapped with Cooper STT Pros. I had the same setup on my last vehicle. Though, I am worried it might be too much weight for my 4 banger. Realistically I'm trying to put on some bilstein 5100 and call it a day, not putting anything on like bumpers or towing anything. Just worried it might bog down my 2.7 to the point it'll drive like shit.

 

The stock steels rims are 32 lbs each, stock tires are 31 lbs, that 63 lbs stock.

16x8 SCS SR8 are 21.3 lbs, Duratrac 265/75/16 C are 45 lbs, that’s 66/67 lbs.

 

Is there a certain number most people keep their wheels at in terms of weight for 4 bangers? I’d be running 265 75 16.

 

It was certainly something I had been considering prior to buying my truck. I had been eyeing the Convenience package trucks in '17 and '18 and knew that if I went to an alloy wheel like the SCS F5 or FN FIVESTAR, I could run a SL 32" and not have any issues with weight, since they'd be roughly the same since the added weight of the tire would be offset by the lighter wheel. Then the SX package came out and it already had one of my favorite OEM Tacoma wheels, so I just threw some Cooper AT3 4S' on there and called it a day (for now). As for looks, I'm at around 1.5" of lift front and rear with 32's and I think the truck looks good. I'll probably get FN 16" Konig Countersteer Type X's in the future, when it comes time to get some new tires.

While I obviously knew I wasn't going to be able to pass anyone and everyone at will, the only other issue with power is on the interstate. Once you get over 75 the truck really is gutless. I know it so it doesn't bother me, and I knew it going in. City and urban highway driving hasn't been an issue for me though, aside from the aforementioned passing, but I'm not an impatient or lead footed driver, so keep that in mind.

 

Rotational weight played a BIG part in my decision. 4cyl 4x4 SR. I bought scs f5 and falken wildpeak atw3 116T sl tires. F5s are like 18ish lbs and the SL tires are 44 lbs. Very close to stock weight. Still took a 2mpg hit, but the truck drives nice and being my dd my mpg is in the 20.5-21 range religiously which is a benefit to the light wheel setup. I wanted my truck to look good bit not at the expense of larger mpg hits and the rough ride of E load tires.

So for me weight actually played the main role in the tire/wheel setup I selected for my 4cyl sr. If I were going for looks alone, I would have done something different, but then again I wouldn't have a black truck if I didn't get a good deal, so I was willing to compromise with everything.

 

Can you remind me what size tire you went with? I've also never been a fan of SCS wheels until seeing the F5 on your truck. The matte dark bronze give a nice subtle pop.

 

265/75/16 SL tires. The ATW3 has an aggressive sidewall and it's the lightest "aggressive " all terrain I could find for a good price. The duratracks are the same weight, but cost almost 2x as much, plus I had them before and after about 30k they are loud and slippery in the rain.

The bronze is really nice on black. It's not over the top and a bit different than the new normal all black wheel. I was going to get silver or gunmetal, but they weren't in stock, so I wound up just getting the bronze. It was a compromise, but I'm actually glad I went with these instead of another color. Not sure how they would look on anything other than black or white. Might not look as nice.

 

Here’s my 2020 SR. Starting to build the sleeping platform and various goodies as well.

 

Installed oem fog light stalk, intermittent wiper mod, pro style grille with color matched letters, 6k white raptor style lights and Diode Dynamics SS3 sport fog lights in yellow. Pretty good haul for one day.

 

And yes. The 4cyl is a bit of a turd. My 20 year old taco sr v6 has more get up and go. But as I get older I care less. I keep it 75 and under, but itll get up to 90 no worries with the 32s.

 

Spent a long time saving but finally got my dream truck! I’m only 20 but I’m a 4 time Tacoma owner and have no intentions of turning back now. My first taco was an ‘03 that I flipped. Had about 395k when I crashed it in June 2017. Picked up a green ‘96 that September with 227k and sold it this week with 258k. Frame on the ‘96 took a shit while I was away and my dad was driving it, was still able to get $1000 for the truck with the cracked frame. Traded in my red ‘02 Tacoma last week for a 2020 V6 SX. I nearly decided to settle for the I4 engine to save on money, but ended up getting the v6 for just as much as most dealers were offering me for the i4 so I couldn’t pass up. My dad is pretty active on this forum (2k2) so here is a side by side comparison of our trucks. I plan to put on wheels and tires in January but other than minor upgrades such as fog lights and a bro grille, I plan to keep my truck stock for the time being.

What kind of wiring did you have to do in order to hook up the raptor lights? I have also been thinking about getting a bro grille but am still undecided on whether or not I want to add extra lighting besides fogs
