I think I ordered these about TWO minutes after you posted this! LOL I’ve been looking at them for awhile but when I noticed you went to EIGHT inches I experienced a major impulse buy moment!

I got them on today and they look and work great. That damn hood was heavy before!

One hint though, when you apply the company decals put them on as “right and left” if it’s feasible. I would have liked the company name to be visible on both struts to show off the fine AMERICAN COMPANY name but the decals are applied to the struts the same so only one decal is visible while standing in front of the truck. Do I sound OCD???? Haha

Looks great, glad you got them installed so quickly and are enjoying the easy hood lifting .

Your comment about the labels is not at all OCD, or at least no more OCD than me, I would also prefer the labels to face in a particular direction. Unfortunately there are practical reasons why it's not easy to do that.

The way the struts are manufactured is that once the gas tubes are assembled and painted (without the end fittings), our logo is painted onto the tubes. After that, the end fittings are screwed on - but as you can imagine, the end fitting socket ends up pointing in an unpredictable direction relative to the logo, based on where the fitting threads bottom out on the threads of the tube. Sort of like how a properly torqued castle nut on a ball joint never lines up with the hole in the stud to put the cotter pin through :).

    20201006_172836 (3).jpg

The labels are added for aesthetic reasons over the painted logo, so again, their location can't be controlled.

We considered trying to remove the painted logo and then apply the labels where we want them, but the logo won't easily come off without also removing the strut tube paint. Perhaps the next easiest step would be to try to remove an end fitting, and use a thin shim underneath it to adjust where the end fitting stops when screwed onto the tube - but that would require some trial and error, plus the end fittings are installed with heavy duty loctite on assembly.

We could ship the labels separately, and you could put them on exactly where you want them - but then you are likely to have the painted logo partially stick out. Unless you decide to paint the entire strut tube first to hide the painted logo :D.

Yepper, I’m in manufacturing and understand completely.

Most people would be surprised to learn how much designing RIGHTS and LEFTS add to the manufacturing process and in turn, the costs.

Yep. In the meantime, here is an install we did recently for a customer on a 2020 Taco. We set it at ~4" above stock height, just before the ditch lights made contact. Primarily showing this to illustrate (advertise :D) the ability to choose the exact hood open height that you want, when using our kits.
