Do you have a picture of the three way switch?

The SS3 and many other lamps uses a Deutsch DT connector with two pins. The C2 uses a 4-pin connector. You would need to either purchase an adapter, or splice the included 4-pin to the harness to get a 4-pin output on it. Then, yes, you'd have only two wires, so you'd lose the backlight feature. It would work just fine to power the main light though!

That makes sense, thanks for the explanation.

The SSC2 has different pin positioning and a slightly larger plug. Just no dice all around, unfortunately.

Hi @Diode Dynamics , do you think the red backlights on the SSC2 would be bright enough to use as a third brake light?

And, I know the provided switches are designed so that only one light is on at a time (backlight or main). Is there any problem (thermal etc.) with running them both at the same time? I know that the main light will be so bright that the backlight will be unable to be seen (not worried about that), but it would simplify wiring if the lights could be controlled independently without worry.

And, thank you for clarifying about the optic orientation. If anyone is interested in the combo optic, it cannot be flipped for symmetry (for example, as ditch lights you cannot flip the optic so that both floods are on the outside).

Good questions. The backlight is quite visible, but the legal and technical answer is that they are not bright enough to use as a compliant stop lamp or CHMSL (3rd brake). The backlight feature is not rated for compliance in any vehicle function.

The backlight will automatically shut off electrically when the main beam is activated. So you are all good wiring them up and letting the main beam "over ride" the backlight. Thanks!

So i figured this would be a good place to share this little light "hack". As yall know its hard to find a place to mount the ss3 pods to use as driving lights on the 3rd gen. I will eventually get some though and do the lens swap for that 4000k color. Originally I bought the diode dynamics 18in bar in white and long story short..i found using a combo of two amber (2000k) and one white (6000k) you get a nice color pretty damn close to the philips h9, which i run in my low and high beams. The lens for the bars are 3 bucks a pop..soo worth it.

That’s a real bummer but glad you shared that. I was really stoaked to mount a set of combos on the front of my wedge camper aimed as ditch lights

The orientation of the optic does not affect the actual output in any way. It's not as if the left optic points to the left or something - they both shine directly forward. If you wish to make them opposite in appearance for cosmetic reasons, you can remove the alignment tab from the optic to rotate it manually.

LOL, I was just in the middle of writing the same thing.

The alignment tab seems more critical on the SS3 so the pattern isn’t installed rotated 90 degrees off, but that isn’t possible on the SSC2.

True - however, for the C2, the fog pattern does need to be in the correct orientation as it is angled about 4 degrees downward when installed straight. The driving and fog have compliance markings that must be in the correct orientation as well. It's also for production though, in order to keep our product consistent in every shipment.

Yes- understood it will not effect the light performance for the optic to move one inch to either side. Just for aesthetic/symmetry's sake.

Well first snow storms of the season. Sad to report the sport fogs are not hot enough to shed ice.

So get the pros if you need that
