5100s w/ stock coils - any good?

From my research, it seems like they get good reviews in the 2ng gen but it seems that people are not happy with 5100s on the 3rd,4th or 5th notch with stock TRD off-road coils.

I enjoy mild off-roading (fire roads, rutted out roads, and some rock crawling). Usually I’m off-roadIng 1-2 times a week. I like the stock off-road suspension in my 20 OR DCLB but I’m looking to gain some clearance via a level/ tires and rock sliders to protect the body.

Money saved by going with the 5100s could be applied toward UCAs. But don’t want to cheap out and regret my suspension decision. I want to be somewhere around a 2” gain in the front.

what’s the general consensus of 5100s w/ stock coils?

5100's get their lift by preloading coils, this results in a harsher ride, but reliable. I honestly prefer the ride of a top hat spacer 2" than a preload clip lift 2" but thats me.

The main benefit of 5100s vs a top spacer is that the 5100s won’t over extended your suspension when at full droop correct?

It's compression that's the issue with top hats, they take the bottoming out very poorly. It's rare and I've seen it maybe twice on high mileage tundras. But not ideal. Ive offroaded a ton with spacers no issue.

Ideally a spring with the 5100s but it adds to cost.

I thought top of strut spacers limited up travel and over extended down travel?

Stock coils correct? How do they perform while off-roading?

Bilstein 5100 is low end shock. Good bang for your buck, but there is better out there. You can get em, go with stock springs to start, then upgrade the spring later if you're on a budget. They are still better than say Pro Comp or Rough Country lift shocks. Bilstein 5100s do ride stiff, especially with preloading the stock front springs.

being that my truck is a 2020, I’ll be having a Toyota dealer do the install so that I keep my warranty. I’d prefer to maybe spend a bit ore and do it right the first time vs replacing in a year or two from now

I have 5100's all the way around. Winch and bumper on the front, shocks set in third notch. I have a better ride than stock.

Thats BS that they say if you have them do it the warranty will stay intact. It will stay intact regardless. The only thing that they won't warranty is the replacement parts.

Do some research. 5100s are designed to be used with STOCK coils. With that said, many people on here opt to go aftermarket when doing this setup

    I thought the 5100s had a 90 day warranty.

Dealership is lying to you no matter how you look at it.

Here we go again, not correct information. It does not preload the coil! The ride is the same no matter what perch it's on.

So what does compressing a coil tighter do then? Why does the 5th clip ride like a tractor?

It doesn't compress the coil, check with bilstein. I have two Tacomas one set on the 4th and the other on the 5th. Ride is the same and both trucks are set up exactly right down to the tires. No difference!

Bilstein may have a warranty, but getting them to honor that warranty isn't worth the time.

Bilstein has a lifetime warranty on the 5100s as long as you use the factory coils. The offroad shop I has replaced a few and no issues with the warranty. You pay labor!
