That's a cool story but let's see all the fish you caught! LOL. Looks Like a nice trip. Where are you wheeling?

(edit)I see the answer "Pics taken up north of pennask lake area, bear creek up westside, some mountains northwest of merritt"

    It's beautiful up there.

They are bad tires, period. I blew 2 of those tires on the same day, both punctured through the sidewall scraping on some rocks. Lucky to get out of my spot that day. I have had the Goodrich KO2s on the truck for 2 years after that, maybe 70 hardcore offroad trips with the KO2s and no issues. Anyone doing serious offroading should take the stock tires off when new while you can still get some trade in or sale value from them.

I am a catch and release guy now, seldom leave the fish in the boat long enough to take a pic. I commercial trolled for salmon on the west coast of Vancouver Island and longlined halibut up at Haida Gwai for a living for 16 years. Killed so many fish, and all gutted by hand, so I lost my interest in killing fish. Get em back in the water as quick as I can now.

Here’s a decent sized chinook, thats me in the cockpit of one of the trollers I worked on. That is a 38 year old picture...

The commercial fishing was a fantastic living, but brutal conditions. Two guys on a 40 foot troller, in storms up to 30 feet and winds up to 90mph. Plus up to 100 miles offshore. On the freezer trollers, we would be at sea for 20 days. Work 18 hours per day for 20 days, wear the same set of stinky clothes with no change. At end of day, climb into your cramped bunk (think coffin...) for 4 hours of laydown. Too deep to anchor, so we would just drift and then wake up 15 miles distant. Assuming we slept as storms were frequent. Back into a small harbor to unload the catch, clean the boat, buy fuel and groceries, do your laundry, and have your first shower in 20 days. If the port had a pub, then get stinking drunk that night and next day back at it again for another 20 days. Do that for 5 months.

Sounds like fun hey? I loved it though, a great lifestyle but I could go 5 months without seeing my wife, and talk to her once every 20 days when we entered port. She worried a lot. No cellphones, no phone on the boat, just a mickey radio to talk to the other boats. I fished the entire west coast of Vancouver Island, and both sides of Haida Gwai, and they are amazing places, I would not trade for any spot on the planet. It stuck with me all these years. My idea of a holiday is me in a tent by a small lake as far from civilization as I can get. No planes or beaches or hotels for me. All that stuff too fancy for my liking.

Definitely a very hard job to do. It’s great to hear you say you love it though.

Im with you. Give me a tent by a lake or stream in the mountains and I’m the happiest person on earth. I’ve camp at beaches when I was younger but not anymore except I’ve made 2 trips to Alaska and camp next to the beach. Where we camped on the beach your still in the forest. Awesome.
You must have a couple of cool stories to tell.

it’s a really nice spot. BC is filled with hundreds of spots like that and if you like that sort of thing, many are very remote and hard to get to. I have several spots I go to frequently that are pristine and private as guys just don’t want to drive the crappy roads. Some I keep telling myself I won’t go back to as the roads just wear you out.

Yup, lots of stories from commercial fishing. Too many, never a dull moment out there. West coast of Vancouver island is dotted with stunning beaches only accessible by float plane, or a capable boat plus a lot of experience navigating and dealing with storms. Have anchored offshore many times and rowed ashore to walk pure sand beaches that never see humans for years. Got to do that whenever storms prevented fishing. I know pretty much every nook and cranny on west side of Vancouver island.

Have not been to Alaska, a beautiful slice of nature, but I have commercial fished halibut not far south from there.
