I assumed with a tow rating of 6500+ lbs, my 2019 TRDORLB auto could handle an empty 5x10 utility trailer (approx 1000 lb) Most miserable 12 hr drive of my life. Could not use cruise or it would shift every 5 seconds on level ground. Had to run in s4 with ect on. Got a great 11 mpg. I don’t understand how anyone can tow travel trailers. 39882FFC-5715-4DCC-9C64-445ABF510504.jpg

Yeah I agree, I have no idea how they do it. I put 1,200 pounds behind it and it has to stay in 4th. If you are towing every weekend, even light weight, I would buy a half ton.

I didn’t like driving mine at 75mph with any wind at all and no trailer. And then I see guys on here towing campers and saying “no problem”. A very wide range of opinions.

I found it to not have enough power on the interstate. Road trips sucked if longer than about a half hour. Around town and on a trail it was great.

Ha! No doubt, because that motorcycle weighs almost as much as the truck!

    Yup...

Those gates really do suck though especially when the trailer is unloaded, whenever I have to tow a trailer like that empty I slide the gate off and lay it in the trailer, much better experience.

I pull a 2800 lb boat/trailer combo all the time without too much trouble, but I'm not in the mountains. I drive S5 and rarely use ECT and never use CC. If its hilly I let the truck carry speed down the hill and ride the momentum. It does require more thought than towing with a Tundra.

It may sound far-fetched but maybe re-gear if you tow often? If you don't tow often and have stock tires then I'm not sure it's the right move if MPG's are your main priority. Probably depends on the geographics of your area as well.

I seriously dont understand why people dont do research before buying a vehicle. Especially one that's almost $40k.

The motor makes its peak torque near redline. It obviously wont be good at towing..

Tacoma's pretty much suck at towing. They will do it but the fuel economy and driving experience sucks. Anyone that plans to tow often or for long distances is much better off not using a Tacoma.

It will handle it just fine. Just rev it. Get rid of cruise. 11 mpg is normal. Do some research.
