Just gotta get a feel for it, believe me. Yep, if you wanted a tow vehicle you would be better off with something else, however, the tacoma will pull 6,500 pounds through the mountains. Trust me.

No issues towing a boat or trailer that weighs 1200-1500 lb's, the 4.0 was much better at that then the 3.5 is. The torque curve is very different.

It’s towing less than 20% of its rating. If it can’t handle 1k lbs, why even have a tow package standard?

Ect on. Had to run in s4. S3 when going up any grade or it would shift between 3 and four every few seconds.

Personally....I was going to order a 2021 F250 Super duty crew cab with the 7.3 godzilla engine....
Knowing the only towing would be my enclosed trailer on flat ground to Summit Motorsports Park 45 miles away for drag racing.
I gave in and got the Tacoma as it would be more "user friendly" on our
trip to Alaska up the Dalton then over to The Dempster. The few times I would be trailering with the taco seemed no big deal and the superduty would have been overkill..

I can deal with the bad mpgs if the transmission would not shift every 5 seconds. I did not buy an automatic to manually shift it to make sure it is in the proper gear at all times.

Pretty soon they're going to tell me I can't post this picture anymore but all the way in northern Utah to Southern California. there are some mountains in the way. That's suggest about maximum load if not maybe a little bit more but not that I'm telling. I did not slow any motorhomes or big rigs down, uphill or down.

I wouldn’t use cruise when towing with the Tundra that I had, much less the Tacoma. I thought that was common knowledge. I’ve towed right at 3k lbs in the mountain in TN and had no problem. S4 and ECT and I was good to go. Not sure what people are expecting a mid size truck with a V6 to do. I’ve also towed with the almighty 4.0 and it shifted around too and ran at high RPMs. Again, mid size truck and a V6. :notsure:

Also, as others have said, that gate is having far more impact than weight. Lower it and it’ll make a big difference. Or trade for a 3/4 ton diesel so it’ll run at super low RPMs while towing.

If you buy a full size and dislike it, you sell it and take a big loss.

At least you can sell the Tacoma and maybe break even or even make some money.

Keep it, sell it your choice, but now that you know it will be interesting to see if you keep it, yet complain constantly like some.

I think you need this, if this 3500 cummins dually cant tow your trailer then you need driver mod

I really try to ignore these, Tacoma 3rd gen can't tow threads, but I just can't avoid jumping in. I am proud as hell of this puddle jumper. Gonna try to finish a Baja 250 and drive it back home next so stay tuned.

There are a shit ton of dually's in my neighborhood. I see them tow like twice a year. The rest of the time they use them as daily drivers.

odd, mine towed my 06 ls430 (4400 pounds) on a front end tower no issues (front wheels only). Sure it got like under 15 mpg as opposed to the normal 20-22. Wasn't shifting crazy or anything, all stock...I will grant you if I had to tow cars on the regular I'd want a bigger truck but I do that rarely so I went with the Taco...most I regularly haul is a few 4x6 1/2-3/4" plywood panels and some 2x4's so I couldn't justify getting a larger truck that only gets 17mpg at best. Odd you had so much trouble hauling such a light load though...
