2008 prerunner TRD, 6 cyl starting issue, turns over, starts, 2 seconds later it dies. happens again and again. Started 2 years ago.

Never heard fuel pump run when key turned (never have before either)
Hit bottom of gas tank with rubber mallet, sometimes starts and runs fine.
Had fuel pump replaced 2 yrs ago. was ok for a year, then started happening again intermittently. Happens more often the last few months.

Happened again yesterday, heard something different than I never heard before: buzzing sound around top of engine when key turned. Still couldn't hear fuel pump running. ldn't determinme where sound was coming from.

Tried several times to start, failed

Finally hit tank again with mallet, started and ran fine. Has started several time ok since.

Temp outside yesterday was 50 degrees, a substantial drop from previous days.

Hate to put in another $1000 pump.

Also, is there a fuel pump relay under the hood? If so, where?

    Ideas please??
    Thanks and stay safe
    Don

Factory fuel pump 2 yrs ago, out of warranty, gonna replace the fuel pump replay,
    then efi, then copn

Any idea where the pump resistor is located?

And THANKS for all the help!

replaced fuel pump relay, lasted a month, failed again,

still need location of fuel pump resistor please

still looking for the fuel pump resistor is located
, it's in front of the battery.

Ok, Took to dealer. Did a fuel pressure test several times, all ok. No codes were set.
He found that the EFI relay was installed in the wrong socket?? Maybe I did it, not sure, but I don't think so.
But the weird issue was he said there was no 20 amp fuse in the ETSC socket and none were loose in the fuse compartment.
I'm not sure what that fuse controls, any ideas???
I never bothered with any fuses while trouble shooting the problem, so I don't get that. He only charged $99.95 diagnostic charge so I guess i made out ok, They did work on it several days, off and on.

Truck is now starting ok now, but I'm not sure it has been totally fixed, since it was an intermittent. Time will tell

Thanks to all who sent comments and suggestions

1-23-21 update. Happened again today. replaced all fuel related relays and checked all fuses. no luck,,,, then, disconnected battery for 30 sec, reconnected and it started ok... ECU problem????
If so and i replace it, does it need to be reprogrammed or is it plug and play??
    Suggestions welcome

Which brand of fuel pump was installed?
It sounds like your fuel pump again.

Yes, but the power to the pump goes through 3 different relays.
The EFI, the C/OPN, and The Fuel Pump Relay.
It also goes through a Fuel Pump resistor, it bypass the resistor on Stat Up and when the engine under heavy load.

ETCS is for the FI System
Definitely some weird stuff going on?
You have anyone that doesn’t like you or would find this some type of a joke.
