Help with Mirror/door handle removal

Havn't really looked at them yet but I'm guessing it isn't super easy to remove them. I need to remove my mirrors,tailgate handle and door handles to paint them was wondering if anyone has experience with this and could give me a little info/tricks on how to remove them. Any help is appreciated.

Door handle removal is very easy. For the fronts it's just one torx screw that you can see on the side of the door.

The back doors you have to remove the interior panel but it's not hard. There are some writeups on here

 

Search for heated side mirrors. He did all that!

 

To remove the mirrors:

1. Remove the sail panel. This is the black, triangular piece that covers up the bolts to the outside mirror. It is only held on by 3 small clips. So just pull it off. You'll have to reattach the white clips to the panel before reinstallation.

2. Remove inside door panel. First, lower the window. Then, remove the electronics panel for the windows and locks. This is retained only by a couple clips. So it can be carefully pryed up so you can disconnect the wires. There are two bolts that are covered (door handle and door release handle areas) that must be removed. Then, the panel can be pulled away from the door to release all of the clips. There are like half a dozen or so. The top portion of the door panel just hinges on the top lip of the door where the window goes into the door. Just lift up and the panel is free.

3. Remove the mirror. There are 3 bolts that hold the mirror to the truck. Just unbolt them and the mirror is free from the truck. You'll have to disconnect the mirror motor wires as well.


Both doors are pretty much the same. It may sound like a lot to do, but it's really not. The second door goes much quicker. Reinstallation is just the reverse of the 3 steps above.

Just a note: The windows/door locks on my 2010 didn't work without the small electric panels. So I had to reconnect them while I drove around without the door panels installed. It scared me a bit when I tried to roll up the passenger window from the drivers side and it wouldn't work at first.

This helped alot, thanks. But I don't quite understand why you had to drive around to hook them back up?

 

I did the heated mirror mod over the course of a few evenings after work. So my door panels were disassembled for a few days. When I was done working on the truck for the evening, I had to roll up my windows. That's when I realized that they wouldn't work unless I reconnected each door switch panel.

*EDIT - to rephrase - I had to reconnect the switch panels so that I could roll up the windows. That way I could drive around with the windows up while the door panels were removed.
