Yep. I don't understand how people that camp with larger dogs use a RTT. I would break my back carrying my fat ass dog up a ladder lol.

I'm starting to reconsider for my trip to get a RTT after thinking about the creepy crawlies out west... I'm still on the fence though

Speaking of camping @TwoStickTrick took this pic at my place Sunday morning while he & his gf was camping. He said the fog was so thick at first glance he thought it was snow. And a pic of us hitting the trails. Another fun weekend.

Finally a break in the wind and rain. I thought I'd never get back on the water. Snuck out last Wednesday and plucked one keeper in the morning.

I knew you'd be my Huckleberry Brian

Damn, I scoured them and besides the worn out (looks like to me) ATLAS label and the UNION stamp on the one, and the hole in the lip/lug of other one, there aren't any other distinctive marks.

I'm going to knock the heads off and weigh them for ya. My guess is in the 4 lb range. Either they've seen a lot of use or these are factory produced because they have a lot of deformation.

I measured these and they're 32" so I suppose 36" replacements would work. I kind of wanted 48" for one of them though.

There are 3 companies that always come up in searches.

I found this but damn. I want to use these not display them

    https://whiskeyrivertrading.com/col...ultra-premium-32-full-size-axe-handle-hoffman

For that much I can put fiberglass in them, beat the shit out of them and not have to worry about them ever breaking again.

I like the look and feel of wood though.

Beaver Tooth - nothing in stock.

    https://beaver-tooth.com/collections/single-bit-axe-handles

This company comes up a lot but apparently they lacquer their handles and I would rather have it waxed or oiled.

    https://www.lowes.com/pd/Truper-35-...1Q4DRIU3_6HjJ7TqY-AaAhqYEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

A couple of reviews that it broke after careful use scares me.

This place looks like a wholesaler that requires you to contact them to find a retailer near you.

    https://www.tennesseehickory.com/index.shtml

Council Tools seems to be a well accepted brand.

    https://www.baileysonline.com/counc...-curved-for-single-bit-axes-70-011-70011.html

This company though gets a lot of accolades - House Handle Company, est 1964. I like that I can order these for very little money, and have them hand picked and unfinished. I'm not sure about octagon shaped, will defer to you. Also, like I said, maybe a shorter 16" - 19" for one and the 36" for the other. This would give me a 12" hatchet, short chopper/camp axe, 28" axe and a 36" axe.

Again, leaving this all up to your experience, none of which I have. Also, if you feel the best long lasting solution is fiberglass, then so be it.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Hey thanks, that a super generous offer! :fistbump: I'm not a woodworker by trade but have made some things. I would love to make my own handles. I have hickory growing up here and splitting a log looks easy enough to make a stave. After that though I'd need to buy the rest of the tools and then I fear the cost will be a lot more than buying decent made handles. I can buy 4 (to have two spares) for under $50.

It is a cool prospect though. Especially with these older heads. I'm not even going to go crazy on cleaning them. Just a light dose of wire wheel in my angle grinder. I already have sharpening pucks so no worries there.

    Thank you!

Never thought I'd say it, but after being off work for a few days and having to paint my living, dining, and some of the kitchen as well, I'm glad to back at work. LOL!!

Git yer saw Son! What are you waiting for? :sawzall:

Happens this time every year. People are upgradi.

Actually, with the pandemic, it is stronger than ever. I think I read camping in general is more popular than it's been for a long time.

I doubt that. Plus, you could put this on the ground and stand and just put the dog in the tent.

Or teach it to climb the ladder LOL

Well, you really only have to worry about the cold blooded ones like snakes, spiders and scorpions. As long as you keep your food far from you the bears wont bother you.

Damn, the first pic is freaking awesome!!!!!! Nice to see the quads on the trails too!

She said jealous but I think it was more worry. She's obviously seen Broke Back Mountain. :pumpkin:

I have to agree, that is the worst part, then cutting in. I hate having to get on ladders. I used a platform step like I posted in my comment to Dave above and it made life a lot easier.

    Afternoon neighbors-

Any of my previous posts about possibly selling my truck should be ignored...wife won't let me. I knew there was a good reason (or more) that I married that woman!
