What gears is he running? That will have a lot to do with it as well.. Not to mention 35" tires will completely throw your speedo off badly... think my friend's truck is between 15-17 MPH off, depending on speed. Speedo will say 55, he'll be doing 70.

Mall crawlers are FUN though. Especially if you get them to follow you... they are absolutely hilarious when they get stuck. "I thought you knew how to drive? Come on, I don't need to strap your ass out.. SKINNY PEDAL BIOTCH!"

Swear I'm going to leave them in a 6 ft. deep mud pit one of these days.

I agree with the other guy, if you worry about gas mileage buy a Prius! I have 265/70 and will move up to 265/75. To each his own whatever you want to spend tour money on. Really should be yelling at the fat cats charging working stiffs an ARM and a leg for gas in this crappy economy. How am I suppose to be a good consumer and buy my new tires when all my cash goes to overinflated gas prices?

Bigger tires will definitaley decrease mpgs but a REGEAR will help bring it back alot. That's what I did for mine and my mpgs are as good as I could ever remember

I went back and read this and I like it cuz it makes since too. It reminds of physics: 2 balls of different diameters at equal heights on a slope (same potential energy [think of potential energy as fuel]) are released and allowed to go down the slope; the smaller ball uses more of the potential energy for revolutions (rotational energy) and less energy is available for speed (kinetic energy). The larger ball doesn't need to roll as many revolutioins (less rotational energy needed) so more energy is available for speed (kinetic energy). In other words, the larger diameter ball goes faster and further with the same amount of potential energy (aka same amount of gasoline).

All this is based off the equation: PE = RE x KE (potential = rotational x kinetic energy). As RE increases due to more revolutions needed, KE MUST decrease because PE is a constant.

haha it may look confusing, but it is completely true - believe me. However, I know that the laws of physics in this example are slightly different than our trucks because we have more weight and friction and other variables involved which doesnt make this application apply to us with our big wheels all of the time.

Only downside to this is most of us who did go with a bigger tire saw our mpg go down. Reason bein is that the bigger the tire the more they weigh. now you have more mass per corner to turn making your truck work harder to get going. Only time this works well for me and I actually get good mpg is that I'm driving on flat lands no inclines or anything

No, Chevy Silverado 2500HD... got a weird gear size in his diffs... anyway, he's running 315/65/18s or something like that. They're mud tires too... think he's getting ooooh something like 8MPG 'round town and maybe 15 highway if he manages to cruise 70...

Think the computer on his truck may have something to do with the speedo being that far off... the whole truck is computerized.. transmission, engine, etc. And I'm pretty sure the computer hates him. :D

Well, I think I've got maybe... 2 miles of road around me that's flat.. the rest is hills and mountains.. :D Sooooo.. yeah my mileage sucks, but I still like my tires. :)

Selling my 96 Tacoma to fund the FJ80 build up.
Cause pulling up to the hunt club in my Civic make me look like i'm packing a tic-tack.

Actually wheeled the Acura TL around the hunting trails last weekend while it was dry ~ Leather / Sun Roof / and OEM 16" Low profiles.

Luckily the Taco on 35's will be done soon.

To go ... what? It's rather simple.. just choose 265/70 or 265/75.. the gearing will handle the tire just fine. They're only what.. a 31 or 32" tire? It's when you start running the *big* tires that you see mileage hits hard. 265 will give you more ground clearance as well.

I can accomplish that just by living in a trailer.. :D

wow so many comments on this one tread. i wonder why the op never posted again on this tread??????? if i were 50+ i would'nt understand why younger people do what they do. if you scroll up at the very top of the page on the left is says "tacomaworld, tacoma owners and enthusiasts". if you need help or advise ask for it. if you have advise that could help then give it. dont judge other guys or question other guys on what they do with they're money. thanks op for wasting everyones time

perhaps "everyone" has opinions of their own and don't need a spokesperson?
