What about all the other dash lights? Is the only thing not working yet the coolant gauge?

the check engine light is wired...thats about it so far. all my 4wd lights are blinking and now i can't reprogram the tpms since i the obd port no longer works, so need to disable that light somehow.

You’re close. I REALLY want to see and hear your truck in person now.
I didn’t know using the Toyota dash and cluster was even an option with an LS swap

Did you ever figure out how to drive the coolant gauge?

you don’t have the 1grfe coolant temp sensor or ECU, right? So just trying to figure what moves the needle on the cluster?

as far as i can tell the ecu gives a + voltage to the gauge to drive the needle up. so i ended up putting an ultra guage in front of it. then i replaced that with a edge cs2 in order to be able to gain oil temp and pressure.

I built a module if you’re still interested in getting the temperature gauge working on your Tacoma. The module receives a signal from a resistive coolant temp sensor and sends a specific PWM signals with a duty cycle that varies with temperature to the cluster for 2005-2011 Tacoma’s. It is currently setup to read the signal from a VW TDI coolant temp sensor but I can setup the module to work with a 1/8” npt temperature sensor if you’re interested. I’ve used the temp conversion module over 20,000km with a VW diesel in my 2005 Tacoma and it works great.

A TDI engine in a Tacoma?
You don’t see that every day.

    Nice job:thumbsup:

Does this work for the 2012-2015 units?

I currently have a non op coolant temp gauge on my 2012 because I am running a 2011 PCM, so the way the signal is reported back to the PCM on the 12's must be different than it is on the 11's and older.

Today I finished assembling a few more Tacoma Temp Gauge Converters and I also modified the software to work with a 1/8” NPT temp sensor with 10’ leads. These are available for purchase for $200 CAD if setup for a VW TDI BHW coolant temp sensor or $250 CAD if setup and shipped with a 1/8” NPT sensor. Shipping is included in the price.
