1995 Tacoma

Sorry, for the wrong image (the image is for 1999 model), so routing on the brow wire is a bit different but in general it goes to the same ground point. But this is the same grounding point where ECU i grounded, so if the ground point is bad, you will have much more serious problems than just OBDII. Anyway the brow wire and the shield is grounded to point called EB and it is located in the engine bay:



White/black wire is grounded in the point ID located in the left kick panel:



That ground point is also commonly used for whole bunch of items, so probably it is OK.

Saying that I would look into the OBDII socket itself, if any bad pins, broken wires or so. Unless the truck was bad manhandled, hacked or very abused I did not see the wire itself go bad.

 

Cleaned and reinstalled ID and EB still getting a link error. I cant confirm the white/ Black or the white is grounding OBD plug and connections look good. Ordered a Scan gauge 2 to confirm its not a reader issue. I cant thank you enough for the help you have provided so far I sure appreciate it. Thank you I cant look at it tomorrow again but will on Sunday. If I dont see anything I will let you know what happens when I get a new scanner. Thank you again for all your help.

 

Have you tried your code reader on any other vehicles??

That is always my first move on a connection issue.

 

It works on my 2019 Chev 3500 and 2019 RAV 4

 

The ID port under the left kick panel has 2 brown wires. I dont see any white/ black

 

Can anyone tell me the output on the data wire from the ECU and what other wire to check the voltage with.

Scan Gauge 2 will not connect. I have 1/2 of a volt on the data wire from the ECU.

 

OTC 3211 wont connect on the OBD1 or OBD 2 connector. Suggestions anyone? Does anyone know the voltage output value from the ECU that transmits data to the reader?

 

Can you clarify on how to identify the shield as noted.

What make and model of scanner do you have that works on the 95.5 . I have called several manufactures and all so far tell me they do not have programming to link with the 95.5 Tacoma as it is a combination of the OBD 1 and 2

 

I have never had a scanner not work on it. I've tried tons too, everything from scan gauge to ultrgauge to the cheapo one at Autozone. You have an OBD port issue with your truck. The reason they're telling you it won't work is because OBDII wasn't officially required until 1996 model year, but Toyota was making the 95.5 completely to OBDII specs and it functions just like a 96, just start telling people you have a 96 when they ask about the OBDII

 

The light on the dash does come on when the ignition switch is in run??

Evil Rodents Chewed wires ??

Open fuse ??

Engine swap at any time possible wiring never hooked up correct??

I have cleaned the port and checked continuity on the wires. Checked wires to ground and the data wire from the ECU has .5 of a volt. I will check the plug and clean it again later today.. It is possible one of the connector pins isnt tight enough to connect to the scanner

 

I do not have the object in hand, but I would assume the white wire is inside some shield and that shield is conected to some brown wire (on one end or another).

 

Checked and cleaned each pin carefully with a dental tool, tightened each connection and sprayed with contact cleaner. Still will not connect. From what I can tell from research the Canadian version of the 1995.5 is different that the US model for the OBD system so maybe there is someone from Canada that has a 1995.5 code reader that will link please let me know. Thanks

 

Update Finally decided to take my 1995 tacoma to the dealer and they confirmed the OBD 2 system is working as normal. They did say the older trucks can only be connected using very old software versions or scanners. Does anyone have an old version of tech stream or a 20 year old scanner they would sell. It needs to be a Canadian version as the USA model is different.

 

Just curious, does Toyota Tech Stream even works for 1995 Tacoma? I mean, not reading, but is there anything to program in that ECU?

For reading life data from my 1995 Tacoma I use ODB2 scanner with live data from HF (CEN-TECH brand 62120, looks like no longer available in HF store). My 1995 Tacoma is USA version.
