Doing that should of eliminated full lock up. I have yet to be able to see when the truck is doing half lock up/slip lock up. I almost wonder if that's the feeling of the transmission slipping but you are for some reason gaining speed lol. I can try those settings and log it to make sure. Are you monitoring torque converter temp? Not being locked up greatly increases temp.

I have not logged. I need to reinstall software due to a windows update
    :annoyed:

I'd be interested in the temperatures as well. I still have the truck locking in 5th and 6th... "Cruising speeds."

    I appreciate the help

Wait, don't we want full lock up? So making this change "TC Locking 3rd Gear S2 – set all to max" keeps the TC from locking?
I have this issue (especially noticeable when towing) where I'll get up to speed in 3rd, it's shifts to 4th, then the TC unlocks ( or locks?) where I lose about 500 RPMs and momentum and... back to 3rd again. It sucks.
This would be a situation where I'd want to keep the TC locked, and therefore lower tranny temps, right?

I was thinking the lock up brings the TC to a fully engaged situation. Now 1:1 with the engine. The lack of the fluid slipping and no longer offering torque multiplication makes the engine bog. Half lock is kind of in-between. Doesn't bog the motor, but also helps reduce temps some. 5th and 6th should lock fully as they are cruising gears. I'd find it hard to believe that with the TC half locked, and the trucks tranny cooler, anything would overheat.

I CERTAINLY could be wrong in my theory with utilizing half lock in 4th and eliminating full lock.
I guess that's where I would prefer to get a full lock in 4th when in SMode for heavy towing.

This is what I want to eliminate, but not at the expense of my transmission. The 2nd gen didn't have this crazy ass TC did it? I believe this is mostly an attempt at better fuel economy.

Hey guys, sorry if this has been answered but I have searched and can't really get the info and anyone at OV is hard to get info from. I have a 2020 3.5 and bought the tuner, cable, and Tune Pack 3.5. I got the tuner and cable and installed the software. Sent files back and forth to OV. Waiting on the final response now to be able to supposedly tune my truck. My question is, where are the tune files that I bought? They do not appear anywhere when I try to open and search for them.

Have you requested the tune pack from OVTune?

You need to request the specific ECU ID that you want in the Tune Pack. Just reply to your Order Conf email and @OVTune will get that out to you.

I plugged it in and read the stock ECU id and part number etc then sent that to OV. Is that what they will reply with?

It depends? If you are an AT and 04B80, you might think about updating your ECU to 04B81 first? Be on the latest and greatest baseline.

Same here. I believe Mat said a while back (prob on the other thread) that the tow mode on the new map switching would keep the TC locked through all gears, because it made no sense to unlock the TC when towing. He also said on the TT thread that when locked the truck feels much more connected.
Cant answer re: 2nd Gen. This is my first Toyota.

Yeah all my previous Toyota's (I've had too many) will use the torque converter to add that extra rpm and power. When it shifts to 4th on the highway it starts unlocked and then within seconds will lock up untill you drop under the speed/throttle your tables are set at. If you raised those tables to 256 then it's always going to be unlocked and you won't loose that extra rpm. The sacrifice is generating more heat since the converter is unlocked. If I were you I would just data log the temps to make sure you're not generating too much heat on your normal drive. You could also pin the thermostat on the transmission or add a cooler if you see temps going too high. I don't know how much time you spend in fourth as every truck is different.

I've been working on allowing 4th gear to be unlocked more myself but my situation is different since I have 5.29s and generally can pull to fuel cut in 4th uphill and don't need it to unlock that often.

Apparently I am over my head here. I have had tuners for my other trucks and they were just plug in and flash. How do I go about updating my ECU?

It's probably worth plugging your truck in and identifying your ECU. Once you have that information you email Mat asking for the tune pack fire your ECU id. He'll email you back, and that's what you flash.

Perhaps with me towing a camper in the summer months I should go straight into a 4th gear lock up... Ideally I'd eliminate it in drive and while in etc or s mode have it lock right away. Does VFTuner do trans temps?
