Absolutely turbo it. I can’t have fun in CA and superchargers are the only legal boost you can have unless it came stock with a turbo. A simple turbo is way cheaper and produces far better results.

I-80 through Nevada at Night is on par with the most boring thing I’ve ever done next to watching paint dry.

It’s so dead, pitch black, quiet, and desolate at night I could stand in the middle of the Interstate and take a piss and no one would be around.

I do admit to doing that a few times, easier than stopping at a gas station.

It certainly would not be cheaper or easier than a supercharger

You now have to worry about an exhaust manifold, downpipe, charge piping, intercooler, wastegate, turbo oil feed and drain

better results from no parasitic loss and the fact it spools with load

But the same roadblocks apply when trying to boost an engine still managed with a stock ecu

Wow the 3rz turbo kit is 250 cheaper on lce... That's crazy there's a lot more going on for the price

Still thats 2500 bucks to have a stock ecu that can't manage boost well and no intercooler

I think it’s something I’ll eventually do. No emissions in Hawaii. I could run open header if I wanted to lol. But I still need to educate myself more on it.

the engine swap I’ve talked about before would be something I pay for. But I think rebuilding the engine (3rz) and going turbo would be more fun, and add to the uniqueness and increase my knowledge drastically.

It’s on my to do list to pull the 3rz and paint the block and change the oil pan and refresh the running gear. Then send the head off for rebuild.

the one thing that scares me, which I think is common is being able to figure out wiring and management. I can conceptualize everything else and what needs to be done but really a lot of the other stuff is confusing

I say turbo over engine swap. It’s way easier than an engine swap in the grand scheme of things.

On a side bar and quick google search that yielded nothing. Was curious if it’s even possible to swap a 5 lug Tacoma to 4 lug.

    4 run, 2 don't
2-3 had CB but we never used it.

I've seen those HAM radios that have a separate base and faceplate for convenience which is what I'll be ordering.
