Took delivery today and beyond excited about this truck! It’s almost a shame to wheel or modify it at all haha.

Mandatory first mod taking off the stupid bug deflector (already damaged paint after only 45,000km). Then ceramic coating and photos.

Did the first 'mods' if you can call them that...while I impatiently wait for the new wheels to arrive...

I've really been wanting to take it on it's first stock wheeling trip, but am resisting until I get the bottom end Fluid Filmed. The chassis will never be this clean again and I figure I might as well get the FF on BEFORE the mud and debris. Fluid Film is happening tomorrow, bought a gallon and a spray gun. But until then:

    Removed the side steps
    IMG_2144.jpg

    Plasti-Dipped the rear bumper
    IMG_2126.jpg
    IMG_2127.jpg

    Extended the AC drain line
    IMG_2162.jpg

Cleaned and prepped the underside for Fluid Film tomorrow
    IMG_2153.jpg

And modified the 7 pin connector - hopefully this is enough to keep it from getting ripped off on my first trip up the mountain! Has anyone had this ripped off even after modifying??

And lastly took a couple photos

Fluid film done. And a trip up the mountain...already dragged the frame rails. Looks like rock sliders aren’t optional on DCLBs.

My favourite Tacoma colour. Nice find!!! Sounds like you are already sorted out for wheels, but we are placing an order for SCS soon. We can also help with sliders and anything else you might need.

And yes, welcome to the dclb life. Sliders are definitely required

So...looking for a lift and was hoping I could get some advice. I’ve probably read 100+ threads on several Tacoma forums and it’s seriously confusing. Or maybe I’m just incompetent?

There’s always 3 types of commenters...those settling for spacer lifts, those recommending OME or Bilstein and those saying everything but King is garbage haha. I’m looking for advice from those with experience in that middle category haha ;)

I want a setup that is going to be decently comfortable, last years, fits 285/75/16 (2.5 - 3”) and attempt to get aligned with stock UCAs to start. But not cost $3000+ (Canadian).

It seems the average person runs a Bilstein 5100 with OME springs and rear AAL? Which would be a hybrid of option 1 and 2 below.

Is there a favourable option from below?

I've run all the setups, except spacers, but I have installed all of the setups, from spacers to long travel.

    Here's my experience, first hand:

Spacers are fine for mall crawlers and looks. That's it. You will end up with worse performance than where you started. Don't bother.

Mid range: Bilstein 5100's are okay. I prefer running them with an OME or other brand lift coil, rather than using them with a heavily preloaded stock coil. You will get better performance that way. OME Nitrochargers are maybe slightly better, but they rust out, so I typically recommend the 5100's instead. You will get lift, and marginally better than stock performance.

Mid+ range: This is probably what I would recommend for you. for around $800 more than the 5100's, you can get the Bilstein 6112 fronts with 5160 Rears. You will see a definite improvement over stock with this setup. You can use an AAL (we have a bunch of Icon progressive AAL's in stock right now actually) which would pair well with this setup, or just replace the whole leaf pack, which is recommended if you carry a bunch of weight all the time. the 6112 use an almost 2.5" piston which is awesome for the price.

High end: From here on up, you pay a lot in the name of performance. You do get better performance obviously, but for a high price tag. Definitely won't fit in you $3k budget.

Are you doing the install yourself?

Thank you!! That’s a helpful post for sure. 100% not getting spacers that was never an option. I’ll look into Bilstein 6112s and would definitely be pairing with an aftermarket spring, not stock.

Probably installing myself. I may bug you via PM or email again. Thanks again

Went with 265's for the time being, but Toyo R/T's seem to rub quite alot at 31.9" diameter.

Your wheel alignment plays a huge part in minimizing rubbing. If there is a good Offroad shop you can get an alignment at that will help.
Also mud flaps have always got in the way and if you gave those little flaps in front of the wheel as well.
    Great tires you picked!

Totally, I took off the front mud flaps long ago. Going to try trimming or heating the front rearward flaps for some clearance. The alignment is pretty good, any more caster and it would rub up front - I think it's just the tires. Most 265's seem to be in the 31.5 ish range, I think the extra meat probably just rubs a little more. Mudflap trimming should do it, but I could be wrong.
