Here's my 5 lug, help please?

If I pop the hubcaps off what will be under them? I don't know what all I can do to it without killing the mpg as far as gas goes... I don't want to pour money into it, but 300 or so for a lift is doable...

well...I would def do some rims, and some low profile tires. I would think about a lowering kit maybe. Tit the windows, and put a good system in. Keep checking craigslist or here for some rims.

 

It's a truck though... I want to be able to take this as offroad as it will go. I will look into it though..

 

Dont run spacers or heavier coils go with Spindles.

When you run spacers your changing the geometry on the arms and the 1st gen 5 lugs have a weak point officially known as "lower control arm 3", most know it as the Lower BJ Bracket. When you lift these trucks via coil they break. Even the larger tires will add strain to this weak part.

Your best option is spindles. They are fairly cheap and will keep the factory ride/ suspension geometry.

Ive been through 3 sets of suspension (broke them) on my 99 5-lug before finally just skipping all the BS and going Long Travel. Obviously this isnt the best option for most however it eliminates the most weak parts in our suspension.

hahaha have fun offroading that thing. you got the wrong truck. Oh yes, i know that there are people off roading with 2wd trucks. But its just not the same at all. You will just get stuck trying to go through ANYTHING fun.
I have a dirtbike for offroading, i lowered my truck for driving on the street and taking the dirtbike to the trail.

 

Yeah bro, or just sell it and buy a 6 lug better especially with 4x4

 

2wd truck is not so hopeless with a locker

Powertrax no-slip is cheap, can be installed by regular Joe and will do wonders off road with somewhat OK on road manners...

 

Im not going offroading, but i do hunt and fish.
this fits my needs perfectly for what i want to do. I never said it was for offroading but sure as hell will go as offroad as I can get it to.

5 lugs are everything but hopeless. I keep up with my buddys jeep just fine with 31's and the Aussie Locker.

 

How do you like the aussie locker on road manners?

 

Aussie has been great. It is far less harsh than anything else I've driven. Ive ran it 2 years and 40k miles now with zero issue.

 

Where can i get one? I was on Aussie website, but couldn't see application for Tacomas...

 

I got mine on their site. Im also a 1st gen though, they may not make it for your truck.

 

These have been the only spindle kits I've found so far that are worth while for a 2WD 5 lug. With the AAL add-on it'll run you $449 or $389 for the spindles alone.

Yeah just looked it up and 00-10 4x2 Tacomas use different rear end than 95-99 Tacos...
