Those are great cookers. Have you done the lower door mod to it so you can feed more wood without pulling meat and such out.

The dirt looked alright in the light. I let Cole sew it and straw it, he did good.

Realized this thing is 10 years old, and it’s been on my list to powder coat for about 3 years now! It’s looking pretty ragged. :anonymous:

A while ago I think someone asked about how quartz welding is done, well heres a pic of 2 sides of a tank I set up to weld. Blocks keep it square, we like blocks (graphite). I'll weld them together using hand torches and quartz rod. Today ill only weld the 4 sides together then anneal it to remove the strain before I weld on the bottom plate. After that, it'll get lapped on all sides and corners to return flatness. Finally it will be sandblasted to an opaque, smooth finish. I'll try to get some more pics along the way.

Here it is with the 4 sides welded up, thats it for this one until tomorrow. I've got 6 tanks to make. By the way the heat clears the opaque ground plate which is partly why they get sandblasted at the end. Looks better with a consistent finish.

If you guys remember when I was putting 2-56 helicoils in a fixture, well here is the reason. Had 6 screws holding the part down to finish the first side. While profiling the endmill launched the 2 missing ones and ripped the part out otherwise. Worn threads are weak, 18-8 stainless is a lot tougher than aluminum.
