The gasket/strip provided to go around the top of the heat shield does not make contact with the hood, so then how is keeping hot air from the engine compartment from being pulled into the intake system ?

Thoughts on Fabricating an Aluminum lid to fit over the top of the heat shield and gasket. Not closing off the entire box, just the top...????

    Anybody got anything thoughts ???

While I have used K&N filters with good results on motorcycles and older vehicles with inefficient air handling, I would put the OEM air box back on. The OEM air box is a CAI and draws cooler air through the fender while having lots of volume capability. The K&N air box, while creating a nice sound on full throttle, draws hot air from under the hood, negating the potential advantage it may have.

Your first problem was thinking the KnN intake was a cold air intake.

Put the OEM TRUE cold air intake back on.
