Want to repaint my side mirrors

Want to repaint my side mirrors since they are fading some, I am going to paint them flat black but not sure what to use to keep the paint from chipping off (read somewhere you can use paint sealant but not sure what kind exactly, searched Google and found one that was better than car wax).

 

Do you plan on painting them yourself? If so, you can buy just a flat-black rattle-can and it'll do the trick. It won't provide the best protection from stone chips, etc... But the stuff is cheap, and re-paints won't break the bank.

If you want better protection, you can have a shop paint them flat-black, and apply a matte clear. Matte clear will provide the protection of conventional clear, but with a matte finish. This route will, of course cost more $$$ than the rattle-can method!

 

I wanted to do them myself, I noticed a lot of my outside flat black is starting to fade nasty. is there a matte clear for a diy person like in a can? I have seen someone do the flat look but with a blue and then he said he put on some sealant, problem is he didn't list what he used.

NP. Good luck with it. FYI, you might want to try your local autobody supply store, you never know, they may have another option for you if you're looking for matte-clear in a rattle-can.

 

if only I knew where one of those were here. it's more mainstream where I am at, hell people are barely hearing about OReily's. I think it's Craigen here, but still. good lookin out though man :tup:

 

You should use Diplicolor trim paint. It comes in a green can. It can be purchased at most auto parts stores.

 

use a turbo torch on the part over and over and not hold in one place for a long time

 

is this one better than the one in the link I posted? Never tried either so I'm just going but company names.

plz explain the process. also will this do a number on the paint overall (when done, AND IF done right)?

 

If they are not painted, just the plastic black, use 303 aerospace. It always brings my trim and mirrors back to black.
Or spray on plastidip.

it might take a few treatments (follow the directions EXACTLY), but this stuff is amazing.

some detailers prefer i never tried it because i went blackagain and never looked back ; )

 

make sure you use some plastic promoter before spraying the flat black or the trim paint will work better for the mirror it will help a lot for chips dude, and make sure you wash and remove all the dirt and grease before you start spraying , so you don't get fish eye on your paint surface, good luck buddy. and make sure you tape up your truck good because spray paint can get very nasty over spray when is windy .
