I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I got it looking pretty darn good. Not perfect but really good. It is a 12yo truck after all!

I'll snap and post up some pictures tomorrow!

Laughs, is that what it gives you?:rofl:

    Seems like its usually :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

I am getting mine this morning from a place over the NY border thats 10 minutes from my house. They needscale it first, so you get rid of the surface rust and then cover it all up nice with some black NH Oil. Was almost $400 to do the entire dump truck we have and the dump body, but thats a big job and I think worth it.

My taco is going to be like $200 or so? Which is obviously a lot more than just an undercoating, but they pull the spare tires off and all that jazz and and descale before coating, I think thats where the extra money goes.

The descale and no travel or truck prep are what convinced me to pay a little extra and get a shop to do it.

325 miles range is pretty good, until you tow then it's probably 1/3 and you'll have to wait however long it takes to charge before continuing. Hybrids are probably the future if towing until battery tech gets to where it needs to be. Believe me I follow all this electric stuff to a T and follow battery tech for work

Yes, plug in hybrid is where we are at today in tech, anything else is for beautiful weather and cruising. Sorta like a convertible. I'd expect that 300 mile range drops a lot on a 0 degree day as well.

I am ALL FOR electric stuff and green energy, but it needs to make sense for me, I'm not in it just to be "green"

I could say that about quite a few people or erhm... things...
Plus, now you get to figure out how to get to a charging port with a trailer in tow as an added bonus.

I am sort of surprised they haven't found a way for the big, long haulers to use a diesel over electric hybrid like trains use. I can imagine it wouldn't be great for short hauls, but I have to imagine the cross country guys could make that system work.

Green people HATE diesel, that's why. I can't think of another reason why not.

They would destroy it with emissions bullshit anyways even if they did build it. Then they'd say "look it doesn't work"

For the first time all summer/fall it’s actually all back together and working as it should (knock on wood).

I drove it to work 4 out of 5 days last week. It’s got a few things I still need to fix/adjust but nothing that keeps me from driving it. No more modifications to it, just keep it as it sits.

I’ve sworn off doing anything vehicle related for a bit outside of basic maintenance to give myself a rest.

depends on your commute. Most people could get by with most electric cars to get to and from work every day on a charge no problem, if not two days! The plug in hybrids are nice for short commutes like mine. They’re reaching that 20 mile range on a charge, I have a 4 mile commute...

    But that’s not trucks/towing.

I have no idea why 'green' people hate diesels. The modern diesel emissions are cleaner than gas engines because of all the Al Gore bullshit they have added. They shine like in a piece of equipment when you can keep them in a 'sweet spot' in the RPM range. If you can keep them working and at a constant RPM, they're happy and will last a very, very, very long time, even with the emissions crap. I'm just surprised no one as even attempted it yet although, you're combining to complicated and expensive systems at that point so you'd pay for the diesel premium as well as the battery pack so it'd be tough to make financial sense to do it. But, the electric cars don't really work either without the gubment subsidies either but :censored:

I think all electric commuter cars are a great idea. Trying to apply it to the truck realm is where I think the equation becomes unbalanced. I get it, there are a lot of people using trucks as a commuter and not as an actual truck. An electric truck probably works great for a lot of truck owners but anyone who actually tows or hauls wouldn't want an electric vehicle.

My company incentives electric vehicles. They have probably 40-50 chargers on our two campuses. Downfall is there are probably 300 electric cars that use them daily. So people have to go out and move their cars when down charging and such. Then people unplug other peoples cars to charge theirs before the other was done because there isn't a standard across brands to indicate when a car is fully charged. Turns into a shit show, but it does allow them to charge for free. Doesn't help them now either, since no one is using the chargers since we are still in a work from home mode.

Many of the charging stations I see can only accommodate a compact car. I don't think a midsize electric truck would fit in the space, let alone a full size.

I think the goal long term will be to have induction charging similar to iPhone QI charging. And self driving. So you pull up to work, hit a button. Car goes into self drive mode, drives onto a charging pad until it’s fully charged, and then drives itself to a parking lot. Plus side to this - no humans. So it can park closer to other cars, more cars fit in a parking lot. AND they could park each other in, if they can communicate with each other, one boxed in could send a signal and they can rearrange to let that one car out. And then it drives up to the front door and picks you up, fully charged.

I’m actually a little surprised electric cars are that popular around here I didn’t know that.

I’d love an electric truck. The towing capacity would be bitchin. And when you go up a hill it wouldn’t sound like 4 eagles are fighting a midget with a hammer in your engine bay. I just wouldn’t want one with the range they’re currently getting for towing. You’d go a hundred miles and then kaplunk.

I think right now they’re good for lots, like moving trailers around a yard for UPS or maybe at airports. But for any sort of distance...:puke:

I may just have to do that... hmmmm.. I need to pay off two of my vehicles first before I start getting crazy again.

I also may be building a steel garage on an acre of land that I have. That way I can put up a lift, have storage for the extra cars and toys... It'll be worth it!

I'd be interested! How much to do a big boy F-250 single cab?
Here is some green for you :puke: :jerkoff:
I feel the same way with my truck bed... I just want to finish it and never touch a wrench again! For like another week or two..

Oh yeah one more reason I miss NH/not a fan of that around here. I could probably pull that off on my lot BUT I would have zero yard left after that. I actually found a house with a lift on Zillow a few months back and was tempted. But. 1.2MM. o_O not THAT tempted. Worth noting....I couldn't even if I wanted to :(
