Look at all the maintenance I did!

I had been looking for a double cab, manual, 4wd Tacoma for a few months. Last week I got my Red 2013 Taco. 88,500 miles. The interior is immaculate. The exterior has a few marks here and there but for the most part in great shape.

Here is what I have done since I got it. All maintenance items were performed by me for the cost of materials, and most maintenance items were beyond overdue:

• Replaced cabin air filter. OEM
• Replaced engine air filter. OEM
• Installed Trexsport tonneau cover
• Installed led bulbs in map/overhead lamps
• Installed Homelink backup compass temp mirror. Sourced from eBay for $107
• Updated firmware on Pioneer AVH-2300NEX head unit (love this - CarPlay is so cool)
• Installed rubber cargo bed mat. OEM
• Added Chevron Techron to full tank of gas
• Replaced factory antenna with stubby antenna. My garage is too short. Amazon
• Performed secondary air intake filter mod
• Installed passenger rear 4x4 mud flap. Was missing. OEM
• MAF and throttle body cleaning. CRC sprays
• Replaced PCV valve. OEM
• Swapped grille for TRD PRO grille. eBay
• Drained/refilled front & rear diffs, transfer case.
  $30 Mobil 1 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
  Mobil 1 75w-90
• Drained/refilled MT. The fluid that came out was gross. Amsoil GL4 MT 75w-90
• Greased all 5 Zerks. Used a rubber extension hose for tricky 2nd zerk. Lucas Red n Sticky
• Vacuumed front door hinge rubber flap areas. Full to the brim with pine needles and debris

I think I will do coolant and plugs and then I think I’m done. If you can think of anything else please let me know, and thank you to this forum and it’s amazing members. The posts here allowed me to accomplish most items with ease. THANK YOU all.

 

Depending on where you live, all that is a waste of time and money if your frame ends up being trash. I would inspect that and fluid film it or something else if you live in a place that gets snow and uses salt or a brine mix

 

Sounds like you got it all under control. Nice truck. How many miles on it?

 

Prior to sale the dealer was mandated to perform the CRC application. 12 year warranty from first use. I’m all good. I live in MA.

Brake fluid, power steering fluid. Both easy and cheap.

 

I would also clean all the rubber door seals with a wet rag and then apply 303 protection. Do that on a regular basis so those seals don’t degrade.

 

I park outdoors and am surrounded by trees, both conifers and deciduous. I'm going to install mesh netting over the intake below the top of the cowl. Will keep out debris and small critters. You might try that. Also, especially if you park outside and have squirrels around (see comment about trees), consider an electric squirrel deterrent. https://mouseblocker.com/

 

If you are at 90k I would just skip ahead and change your serpentine belt (oem/gates/bando/etc) AND flush your power steering fluid.

both are easy jobs. Inspect your idlers and drive pulleys For any play while you have the belt off.

edit: flush your brake fluid and bleed your brakes!

edit 2: check your upper and lower ball joints and get an alignment done.

Excellent and thank you so much. Alignment was just done in June when Toyota did the CRC frame application. Apparently a four wheel alignment is done as a courtesy. Sweet! The rest I will be tackling as best I can when I can.

I have 5 years left on my frame warranty. Remember.....if you don’t have the CRC treatment done by Toyota, there is no 12 year frame warranty extension.

 

My frame was replaced a few years, 100k back.

 

Spark plugs. Your engine has OEM iridium plugs with 100K replacement period. From my experience, 100K is too much for the ground electrodes, unless they are hardened like the Denso Long Life's. Pull them now and re-gap them, or replace them. I bet he the gaps will be excessive, which puts an extra load on your coils.
