    Story Time. :)

I was grouse hunting one time in the late season.
    Snow on the ground.

I flushed up a grouse but didn't get a shot.
I walked a short distance in the direction it went and topped a rise.
Before me were a few small patches of laurel in a little draw...no other cover nearby.
Mind you, grouse spend most of their time on the ground and don't fly long distances.
They'll fly very fast in short sprints though.

I told myself: That grouse is in one of those patches of laurel...but which?
    How do I approach this?
Being a bit tired from slogging in the snow, I cleared off a place to sit on a log.
I sat down to have a smoke and think it over.

Pretty soon there were 3 Cooper's Hawks in trees ringing the bowl of that little draw.
(Sometimes a family group will not disperse until late Winter).
I'm fairly certain that from a distance they saw or heard that grouse flush.
They called to each other almost like they were having a conversation.
    One would call: kik-kik-kik
And another one of the hawks would reply: kik-kik-kik.

This went on for quite awhile as I sat there, fascinated.
Eventually, I got cold and turned around to trudge back to my truck.
I felt sorry for that grouse.

    It fingers figures.

    I remember Band Camp well.
Especially the time me and a couple buddies got caught smoking weed.

    I played the sousaphone (tuba).
    Yeah, really.
Originally, I played trumpet but I sucked at it and was a fairly big guy, so...

The quote marks for the "mashed potatoes" is because they aren't mashed potatoes at all. It's mashed cauliflower, and it's delicious. We still call them mashed potatoes though because my 4 year old will still eat them that way.
