Trucks are like women, everyone has their own personal taste, Ford is the biggest selling pickup in the US for a reason. They provide pretty good value, and although they are not without fault, neither is the Tacoma. Over the years I have owned a couple of Rangers and an F-150 and although the F-150 caught fire on me, the Rangers were very good basic transportation. Let him buy what he wants and continue with friendly banter over who has the best truck!

Agreed tacoma has the best residual value of any pickup

OK, I've owned 2 (pre Tacoma)Toyota 4wd pickups ('81 and '87) and beat the s*it out of them. Awesome trucks! They never let me down.
    I bought a '97 F-150 in '02 with 66k on it.
I just had it hauled away with 265k on the odo. Plowed my 300 ft. driveway from '03 thru last winter.
I can only hope my '16 Taco will last that long.
I don't care about resale. I use my trucks till they die!

Not only do they not hold their value, a Ford will be dead by 200k mi max, probably less. I wouldn't trust their EB motors or 10 speed transmission for 500k!

    Work in progress...
If buying to resale then the Tacoma is the way to go. If buying a truck because you want a truck that you want then I recommend buying the truck that you want. Especially if, and who isn't, making payments. Paying monthly on what your brother's cousin thinks is a great is truck gets old real fast. Just my thoughts...

I test drove a Ranger prior to finding my Taco. It's a nice truck and all but I just wasn't sure of the longevity of the 2.3 Ecoboost and knew for sure that it wasn't going to hold its value like the Tacoma.

I am kind of a Toyota and Ford fanboy.

If I had a dream garage:

    1st, 2nd, 3rd gen Tacoma (2004,2015,2019)

    Ford F 250
    Toyota Tundra
    Toyota 4runner
    Ford Mustang
    Ford Bronco

Although I would never buy a ranger over a tacoma that article is trash. The ranger 10 speed is butter. Not once did I ever experience gear hunting, it always knew what gear it wanted and when you stepped on it the power was instant. Towing I cant comment on but I can bet it tows way better than the tacoma with the low end power it has. Paint peeling is a good one. cough cough super white tacomas cough cough. Not sure why he focused so much on the waze app which is optional and didn't mention sync 3. Engine noise? Its definitely quieter than any tacoma gen motor.

Seems like the guy didn't even drive the truck and was just paid to bash it.
