I just bought a 2021 TRD off-road and I’m having trouble setting up remote connect. The window sticker says I should have it, the Toyota app says I should have it, the dealer thinks I should have it, and everything I’m googling says the TRD off road automatic transmission comes standard for 2021. However, the remote connect app is not showing up in the communications tab of the entune suite on my head unit. Actually, when I first got the car there was no communications or infotainment tab just the app page. Not until a couple hours later did it show up. I’m taking it in for a separate issue in a couple days and the dealer will look at it then. But would like to see if I could figure it out before then. Thanks for the help.

Ok interesting. I went to that website here’s what mine says. Maybe that just means it’s capable not necessarily installed.

Interesting, have you tried to start the truck using your key fob?

Yes. The key fob starts the car.

As in it remote starts the car and it shuts off when you open the door? If so, you have remote connect.

Yep, that’s what I thought. Just not sure why the app isn’t showing up on the head unit. Maybe the dealer needs to unlock it?

I've only used the key fob and the phone app. Im not sure if there is an app on the head unit in the truck.

I am having the same issue with my 2021 TRD Off-Road, I can start the truck with the key fob, but the remote connect authorization options is not showing up under communications.

The app on the truck is only to activate the remote ability on your phone.

Hit the SOS button in the cab. they took care of that for me. They can activate it on their end with your vin#. I did have to talk to a few diff people but literally just did all this a couple days ago.

    i'm in a 2021 TRD OR btw.

This worked for me. I hit the SOS button, chose enrollment in the menu. A person answered and i told them the activation for remote connect isn’t showing up. She asked for my name and told me to sign out and sign back in on my app. The remote connect said activation pending may take 24 hours to activate. 2 hours later it’s working!

You definitely don't have to go to the dealer. Even try calling Toyota's customer service #(18003314331) and talk to someone there and explain the issue. Then hit the SOS button and ask again.

To be honest man- be prepared for crappy service / reception. My 20 tech package isn’t up to my standards with remote start app. Key fob is 50/50 decent . Too my understanding, the app is based on good reception. I have Verizon and it’s one of the best in my area and in So Cal. My wife got a 2020 Rav 4 same tech package and I have same issues . Her remote start actually worse! I just deal with it but very disappointed in service since we pad so much for both our 2020 Toyota’s . I assume since this is somewhat “NEW” technology to Toyota - they are behind all the other OEM’s when it comes to remote start . My little sister has a 2017 Honda CRV and her car starts up 100% with no issues .

Good luck- you aren’t the only one bro dealing with remote start issues.

I just went through this with my new 2021 TRD OR. I couldnt' connect the app with my remote connect and it wouldn't send me an authorization email. I found out later that I have to create an account on Toyota.com first then log in to the app with that credential then I was able to get the code to verify my account the app. Now the app works with the remote connect. Hope this helps.

I got my 2021 Tacoma a couple of weeks ago and I have been trying to activate it for a while now. I hit the SOS button and choose the “Enrollment” selection, and he activated it for me. Said it would take 24 Hours to activate. He also said if the App or Truck gives an error message, that it’s normal and should faze out. Said it shouldn’t happen, but it does it to some people. Guy was really helpful. Did not ask for my VIN, just my name.26E476CD-22C4-431C-A76B-46CF2142E608.jpg
