Something tells me Nitro hears this a lot.

"All Nitro Gear & Axle brand products are warrantied to be free of manufacturer defects for the specified period. Warranty requests must be made by the original purchaser and submitted by the dealer purchased from. Any parts sent for warranty consideration must be pre-approved and shipped prepaid freight to our facility with copy of RGA for our inspection & determination. We will not pay for labor, shipping cost, loss of revenue or perishable goods, commercial losses, costs of telephone calls, shipping or general inconvenience. This is our only warranty expressed or implied. Unauthorized warranty returns may be refused. Warranty generally covers MFG defects in material or workmanship. Abuse, overloading, improper lubrication, misuse, commercial or competition use voids warranty. Normal characteristics are not warrantable, such as Gear whine. Minor cosmetic flaws, dings, burrs from shipping or manufacturing, are not considered defect, it is installer responsibility to address these at time of install. Customer is responsible for shipping charges if warranty is granted. Warranty is for the original purchaser/user, is not transferable. Warranty covers one replacement or credit solely at our discretion. Warranty determinations are at our sole discretion."

I would like to see more people in Tacoma’s get revolution gears to compare. Nitro is the default choice but I kind of would like to get a better idea if revolution is the better gear set.

Yukon got into the Tacoma gear game fairly recently. If they were available when I purchased my gears I would have gone with them. Like Nitro being known for whine, Yukon is pretty well known for the opposite.

I did, both sets. The second set I even used Nitro's stupid expensive gear oil. Just to clear things up, my gears were NOT set up by feel.

There's nothing normal about noisy gears. There just covering their asses.
Will you get 100k out of your whiney gears most likely if there set up properly but not normal.

    100%
I changed the fluid after 500 miles and the gear oil looked like it should, dark but still translucent with fine shavings on the magnet.
Then changed it again at 1000 miles and it looked like it was just poured in the same day. Mild shavings on magnet.
Installer said to use Valvoline 85/140 Dino which Amazon had for $ 3.96 a quart so I used that first then used Lucas 85/140 Dino on the second drain and fill.

I have to agree/say my 4.88 in my MT 2019 are coming up on a year and are still relatively quiet. I just changed the gear oil from 80W-140 to 75W-110 and if anything are a bit more quiet.

Ask him if he’s willing to to put the cost of the install on the line, if it’s dead on by feel you pay if it’s off he refunds your money.

No shit, I should of the day of install. It's been over a month.
Guy is good it wouldn't surprise me if he was right on.
Still it just isn't the way it should be done, now I question the slight whine on install. Like I said though the pattern was perfect!

At this point it will be a little off due to break in coating coming off (unless REM polished) but should still be within spec. Like I said before, I have had gears that were set up by hand installed before (not in my Tacoma) and they were in fact dead on. After going through 2 sets in this Tacoma that were set up properly with measuring tools, I truly believe that whine/noise is a normal characteristic of the gearset based on gear tooth shape and metallurgy.

I do believe this also, it's just strange the stock gears do it also.
Maybe a different gear manufacture should be considered if Nitro has a known problem. Or maybe it's just harmonics from the diff housing. Who knows.

My 5.29 are howl at 70 mph. I had my installer go back into the gears to make sure it was normal, Nitro said it was and the gear pattern was optimal. :notsure:

I am going to have them check it out again soon and adjust the backlash I think. For me it’s been.. oh... maybe 5k miles. Broke in correctly.

Mine are super quiet. Sounds like a backlash issue or maybe try a lower viscosity gear oil.

Mine don’t whine but I used 4.10 OEM gears and I’m not arrogant enough yet to set anything in the diff by feel alone
