    It's funny you drive a $40K truck ($42K when I'm finally done with it) and a $120 upgrade is what makes you smile.

    If any of you guys that have one and are looking to sell, let me know. I'd be interested in one that has Tacoma, TRD Sport, or just TRD engraving for an AT. I realize this is one of those things you probably don't want to sell, but you never know unless you ask.

    I'm more alive-r than ever.

    There are two AT knobs for sale still, one is TRD Sport. Not the aluminum like you quoted though, the all black copolymer.

    Consider that TRD Sport off-the-market. :thumbsup:

    I'd like the TRD or TRD Sport for AT as well when available.

    @7r41lbr34k3r

    so i ordered a SS shift knob w/ alum core back in February. I have a couple questions/request for advice...

    1. Although I dont wear any jewelry on my shift hand or really touch it with anything other than my palm, a ton of scratches have developed on the SS. I assume these are just surface level and can be polished out? Is there any way to prevent this from happening the in the future?
    2. When I first installed the knob I used the provided spacers to have the shift pattern perfectly aligned. However over time they have flattened out because when it is tight, the shift pattern is a full ~90 deg. further clockwise. Can I use a different material spacer to prevent this from happening in the future?
    I still love the knob. The weight and feel is perfect. However I will say, and this one is 100% completely my fault, I did not give enough thought to how temp would affect a SS knob with solid aluminum core. I have ceramic tint windows so the summer isnt bad unless the sun is at the perfect angle (which has happened and you could fry an egg on it) but damn in the winter, that bitch gets COLD all the time. Ask me why I keep a pair of "driving" gloves in the console now. Yep.

    Thanks in advance

    1. The exterior of your knob is actually aluminum. The core is stainless. I can't speak to how deep your particular scratches are, but the only way to prevent them is to be careful. I know it isn't helpful, but I drop shit on mine all the time, smack it with my keys sometimes. I can be careless because it is easy for me to fix. The temperature issues are why most go with the copolymer ring. You get the skin protection and it is also quite durable to impacts.

    2. I do always provide enough shims to handle this process many times over, but my guess is they are either thrown out or lost shortly after installation. The installation instructions linked in the OP address the initial compression settling, and usually, after this point it is permanently settled. Unless, of course (for some knob configurations), you move to a different area with a significant change of average temperature.

    One digression I do have is with the black Copolymer/Delrin hybrid knobs. I've been using one myself for a few months now. These will lose orientation pretty quickly on a very hot day, so re-shimming it under these circumstances is almost a certainty. After that, it has nowhere to go and should be good forever.

    A solid metal knob like yours though, it will only move an imperceptible amount between temperature extremes. Unless the shaft on your truck is somehow damaging the shims, there is really no way your particular configuration can move beyond the initial settling phase. The shims are meant to be layed flat and stacked together, not bunched up or anything like that.
