    I’ve searched all through TW and still can’t get any concrete answers. I started with the stock 265/65r17 on my 2018 sport 6 speed manual, decent power. I’m currently running 265/70r17 Nitto Terra Grapplers G2’s (40 lbs per tire) with no lift. I did notice some power loss moving up to this size. I’m considering doing a lift to fit 285/70r17 Nitto Terra Grapplers G2 (46 lbs.). I travel a lot from NC to OH via Interstate 77. I never go off-road but love the look of the 285’s on these trucks. I’m looking for honest feedback on the loss of power going from 265/70r17 to 285/70r17 with no re-gear. Will I be constantly downshifting on inclines? Thanks!

    Short answer is yes.

    Being familiar with I77 and the hills of WV, I frequently find myself in 4th to keep 70 to 75mph while climbing. 5th will work for some, but 6th definitely won't do the job.

    Well considering my truck constantly downshifts on any angle of incline its not like I'm already used to it bumping up to a 33 :notsure:

    I have found no reason for a re-gear or power shortage, I'm running 285/70-17s on a '19 TRD Off Road 4x4. For a recent 2 week vacation I had nearly 1,000 lbs additional weight over stock and was driving in the mountains and on trails at 6,000 - 9,000 ft with no issues.

    Is it really even worth it just for looks? I wouldn’t do a spacer either, I would make sure I did a coil over for ride quality. Give me some direction here!

    It's your money but I would not do it just for looks. In the end you risk sacrificing reliability, fuel and enjoyment over looks. I plan to go 285/75R16's and am aware of the risks. If it was not for wanting to do some overlanding and the such I would leave it fairly stock with some good tires etc.

    Honestly if its just for looks, I wouldn't have done it. 285s do look good, but with aftermarket suspension parts you get squeaks, pops and all sorts of annoying gremlins. Then you get into the rubbing issues. Trimming, CMC, molding the plastic. And don't forget the needle bearing. Its a rabbit hole and if I was a mostly highway driver I would have stuck to 265s

    I'm running 285/70/17. For a couple months, my foot was always down on the pedal. It was annoying and tiring.
    After I regeared to 5.29, I was able to pick up the pace and didn't have to feel too bad for the people behind me anymore, coming right from a stop. Probably the best decision of my life.

    You might consider 255/75R17s. Taller than 265/70r17s, less weight gain, less frontal area, less effective gear change and less rubbing than the 285s you are considering. Doesn’t provide the wide meatier look of 285s, but does have a better side profile than 265/70r17s.

    I went from 265 Nitto G2s to 285 G2s and after about a week, you no longer notice the difference in power loss. I ran the 265s for 3 years and have had the 285s for a year. Truck is a daily driver with 40 mile round trips. I have the auto transmission if I think I need more acceleration I just bump it to S5 with ECT on. MPGs dropped from 21 to 18-19 depending on weather.

    No regrets on bumping up although you're going to need to do a CMC for 285s. I cant imagine running a tire heavier than these at 46 lbs, that's why I stayed away from 275 E load tires.

    Suspension is 5100s, 887 coils with SPC UCAs and a 3 leaf AAL in the rear. I also did the needle bearing upgrade to ECGS bushing while everything was apart as a preventive measure.

    Thanks for all the input! I’ll probably just stay with 265/70, just too many negatives for what I use my truck for on a daily basis. Also, I’m really surprised how level it sits from the factory.     One Mod after another
    You will loose power, you will loose gas mileage, Your needle bearings will wear faster. I lifted my truck 2 1/2 inches and did the CMC. Truck looks great IMHO. Be sure and get get C class tires. I went with 285/70/17 KO2. And yes they are noisier. All of the above.

    The facts are black and white. It's your choice. I didn't change gearing but I did get OVTunes which does help some.

    I love the look of the 285s but the 265 are not too bad, no issues with rubbing, no gear hunting, shift points stay the same, no loss of mpg, no power loss, no speedometer re calibration needed. Its a win win for me or do I want that little extra tire size for a better look? I'm dreading the day I need tires and having to make this decision.
