    Give us a call at 800-422-5292. If you ask one of our sales staff nicely they will usually put in a custom order. As much as we are trying to avoid orders like this with how busy we are, we will do our best to make it happen for you without having to pay unnecessary amounts.

    Hi, my name is Mike, and it's been.. uhh- 19 months since I last bought some BajaDesigns..

    Anyways, so I've got my cleanish setup so far; Squadron Sport Combos in the fog pockets, plus Squadron Pro Spots up on the ditch lights;

    [IMG]

    What I'm missing is the main heavy-hitter- Four Squadrons are awesome, and give me max aim and decent distance, but what if I added awesomeness..

    Some requirements;
    -I do not want a bar on the Prinsu.
    -I'm not able to spend $1k on lighting.
    -My Province requires covers.

    Options I'm looking at are
    Bumper mount;
    LR4 Pair
    or
    XL Pair
    or
    Lower grille mount;
    10inch OnX6
    or
    10inch S8

    Discuss.

    I'm not sure of your definition of "awesomeness", but the 10" ONX6+ didn't get me there by my definition. I also have the Sqaudron pros on the A Pillar. Do you want more light where you have it, or more light at further ranges? The 10" bar actually throws out a lot of light, it's just that my Xenon Hi beams also do, and I want significantly more light at the far end. I just ordered the 20" bar.

    I'm still waiting for Baja Designs to answer my question about how many Racer LEDS are in the LP6 vs the LP9. I know the 20" ONX6+ has 4, and the 10" has 2. I think the S8 bar has less output than the ONX6+, but if if you got the larger S8 that might be a wash. The XL80's get rave reviews for throwing lots of light. My mounting options just didn't accommodate them well. I'm no pro though, and still sorting out my own set up. I'll be curious what you go with and how you like it.

    Like @IPT said “awesomeness” is very subjective. My 40” onx6 hi power is awesomeness and after using it everyday anything less would be underwhelming.

    Your requirements are pretty vague. More all around lighting, more distance lighting, etc...Id count the S8 right out unless you put it in the lower grille AND add something better on top of it. I run XL80 ditch lights in a spot pattern and they throw out a ton of light for what they are.

    Also keep in mind the lower you mount lights the less effective they are.

    Did someone say awesomeness? I'm here...

    Have you thought about putting a 30" S8 in your lower grille slot?

    I think the XL80 on the front bumper might be the ticket. Rock covers are available which is a big plus for me and my uniformed friends.

    I mean a 40in bar is going to be hard to beat light wise.

    As mentioned, the higher the light is the more usable it's going to be. I have a 40" S8 on my roof rack and had a 20" onx6+ in the bumper. Both the same lumens and both with the same pattern. It was a night and day difference in output between the two with the 40" taking the win. Honestly, just that bar is all the light I need want. I know you mentioned not wanting a bar on the roof but I'm just curious as to why. If you position it back a bit, there's no hood glare and no wind noise either.

    Are you mounting them to your factory bumper?

    That would be the plan. I've made brackets on our Subaru that mounted to the crash bar. I'm thinking something similar that would protrude through the lower grille right at bumper level;

    Pretty cool. The xl80s are pretty heavy, those same brackets would probably need gusseting to keep them from bouncing.

    Since I’ve mentioned it a couple times recently I figured I’d dust off the XL80/S1 ditch light combo for a comparison against my 40” onx6 hi power. I haven’t really used my ditch lights since installing the onx6 since it’s way more light and is faster to turn on/off, and I keep covers on the 80s.

    Obviously the onx6 is a lot more light then the pair of XL80s as it’s essentially 4 XL80s and 2 XL racers, 19,000 lumens vs 46,600 lumens. The onx6 is mounted just above the top of my bumper and the 80s are on the A pillars so a considerable height difference.

    Having said all that the 80s certainly hold their own against the onx6 and they made a big difference when switching them on with the bar already on and I suspect it’s mostly due to how much higher they sit on the truck. While the pictures aren’t exactly comparable since they were taken on different days and different spots on the road they’re still a good comparison. If you take the same light mounted low and high you’ll see a big difference in output.

    first ones the ditch lights and second is the 40” onx6.

    That's pretty impressive. It looks like the bar does a really a good job illuminating the periphery! Are those XL80's aimed straight forward? What type of lens is on the XL80's? I think you have the driving combo on the 40". Though if I am right, with the driving combo on the 40" there would still be 8 reflectors diffused into the wide cornering pattern, yes?

    The bar throws an awesome amount of light to the sides, and yes it’s a driving combo. Each 10” lens section has 2 diffused covers, one at each end of the lens. So you’re correct there’s 8 total diffused leds.

    The XL80s are pointed straight forward and they’re wearing spot lenses, however I just eyeballed and never actually “aimed” them so I’m sure there’s slight room for improvement. I also have wide cornering S1s mounted to the sides of each XL80 pointing toward the ditches. Even with the spot lenses on the 80s they still throw a pretty large beam illuminating the entire road including roadside trees.

    Cool, I have the squadron pros on my A Pillar with driving combos aimed slightly outward. I have the 20" bar on it's way to me as I type. I'm hooked on the light thing. I've wanted to do it for years. it's super dark up here a good 5 months of the year. Now that I finally have my feet into lighting it seems I want more and more :). I'll see what the 20" bar does for me, but I think upgrading the Squadrons to the XL80's would make me a happy camper :).

    Seems to me with my limited experience on the highways and stuff the whole batch would be awesome. On the back roads or trails where it's a little more windy and a lot slower the A Pillars and stock high beams would probably get the job done quite nicely.

    I really can’t say enough good things about XL80s on the A pillars. The height it puts them at combined with the amount of light they put out makes for a very useful combination. Point the 80s straight forward and hang some S1s off the sides and you have light thrown all over the place in a pretty small footprint.
