I am new to the group and am in a mess with my truck! When I crank the truck, the engine immediately and continually hits 4000rpms. I have to turn it off immediately for fear of blowing up engine altogether. Have checked all the hoses and connections and fuses. Anyone else have anything like this happen or have any ideas,? Thanks for any input offered.

No on mat on accelerator. You can unhook the cable on the throttle body and it still runs same. Intake has been at least partially cleaned. Sorry for delay...I'm actually typing for because he doesn't use the internet. Have not had codes read but the check engine light has been on a couple years. 225,000 miles

My name is Vicki and I work for Joe...he is not a mechanic, but is fairly knowledgeable on toyotas in particular. If I get some of the terminology wrong... Forgive me.

Are the spark plugs tight? Sounds like a massive vacuum leak. So the hoses are NOT dry rotted? Are you sure? Run your finger along the hoses and if your finger turns black the hose(s) are dry rotted and need replacing

Vacuum leak is what I suspect to be going on. Will replace hoses and update.

Aslo , make sure the throttle is completely closed before you start the truck . When you disconnect the cable , you are removing the control , but there could be something preventing the throttle body from closing off completely .
I beleive at idle , the butterfly should only be open about 1/8 of an inch

I’d like to know if the spark plugs are loose or tight

If thats the Throttle Position Sensor you replaced I think that needs adjustment (I could be wrong)
