We all will. There's a large difference in the amount of gear I place on 5.8 compared to 5.11.

What climb was that first photo taken on?

Yep. By drowning not soloing. Crazy story that was. He got into from Bacher who is also dead along with Hearsey. Croft is still alive and still climbing hard. Barber's onsite free solo Steck-Salathe is legendary.

Osmand didn't die base jumping. He died rope jumping from Leaning Tower. Potter died base jumping.

Not to mention the legendary Peter Croft, but I think most of his feats were personal and in the alpine so you'd never hear about them except rumors.

RMNP, Tourmaline Glacier to.. I forget the actual peak name. We did the ‘notch of choss’ to the top. We should have taken the rope...

(second pic is Cannon Cliff in NH... lacerated my cornea on a hemlock branch on the walk off in the dark. Worst ‘climbing’ injury I ever had, by far.)

I was going to guess the Cascades by the fractured nature of it. RMNP is one of the few areas I never climbed in.

The only route I've done on Cannon is Moby Grape. I learned to climb in the Gunks. When summer came around we would head up to Cannon and Whitehorse. If that was to hot we'd head up to Acadia. I've also spent way to much time ice climbing in Franconia and Crawford Notches. Then I moved to Cali so I could climb rock year round. I literally haven't touched my tools in 15 years. lol

Presidents’ Day at the turn to Huntington Ravine... red means: “go for it!’”

Nice to spend Presidents Day in the Presidential Range. And red means go fast.

I spent 2 years in Fairbanks Alaska. By far the coldest I've ever been was at the top of Damnation Gully in January. It's probably one of the main reasons I moved to Cali. lol

Most just refer to it as 4wd which is what it is. Anything else is a modified 4wd system such as AWD and full-time 4wd.

When you lock your front and rear diffs you have equal speeds applied at all four wheels but not equal torque. I'm not doing this discussion again though, I've beat it to death.

Only on TW can we go from:

    - Why a hard mounted winch?
    - To various styles of winches and recovery gear.
    - To ATV winches and a metric buttload of pulleys.
    - To rock jock and my rope is longer than your rope.

    Like no other website.

I went with a dedicated winch because the ONE time I went with a friend in his jeep we got stuck and no one had proper recovery gear. The jeep was framed out and took a another truck with a Bubba rope and some winching to get unstuck....4 hours after waiting

I like being prepared. Plus I already used it this week to recover the HOA's golfcart that got stuck in the grass by our pond. Getting them hoa Brownie points

It ain’t bad lol. Kinda boring here but I live in a medium sized town for Maine, on the outskirts. Some friends call it a city bc we have almost 9000 people but I’ve had cows in my yard before. Either way I’m only a half hour from LL Bean and 35 minutes from Portland. Or 25 minutes from the ocean. I’d like to get out and see the rest of the country though

I remember when my dad got the call that our hogs were on the highway. About 1/4 mile from our house out on 101.
I feel like the bad livers made this song about that incident, because Danny Barnes moved from Austin to just up the street from our old place there:

My neighbor used to lease his farmland for cows and every now and again they’d all escape and he’d walk around the neighborhood rounding them up lmao
