DC plug for bed options.

So Tacoma dealer where I bought my truck says it will cost “thousands of dollars” to install a DC plug in the bed of my truck. I need one so I can keep my DC fridge/freezer cooler on while I drive long distances. Any aftermarket recommendations? I looked and can’t seem to find something.

To re-iterate my question in that thread for the 3rd gen community, has anybody found a good spot to ground to at the back?

 

Both threads that have been posted here are instructions for putting a dc plug
In the back of the truck after they already have the 110 volt plug that came Stock.
My truck has no existing plug. Is there a existing kit for trucks with no pre existing 110 outlet?

I actually ran a red/black wire to the battery and grounded it in the engine bay. That way it's always live when I need it.

 

Do you tow a trailer that needs battery charging? If you don't, that's your source for DC power. Also, if you don't use the electric trailer brake juice, then you have 2 sources for DC juice to the bed. One is IGN activated, the other would need a relay to intercept the hot (always ON)source.

 

What is ign activated? Can you explain further? Great idea!!

 

I do tow a trailer but not when I need a plug in the bed aloha

 

Ignition activated as in circuit not "ON" if vehicle is OFF.
Does this trailer you tow require an electronic towing brake input?

 

The trailer I tow only has blinkers and break lights. I believe the harness you sent me is the one. Looks like it will work great.

so as to have a no cut Y harness.

Just use the Towing Battery Charger circuit and the ground. Other circuits tap for later mods.(Maybe)
Site mentions is for a Tundra, but it fits the Tacoma.

Also recommended lowering the fuse amp type to 20A from 40A.


All wires not used insulated and secured to minimize flopping around and sound.
It's a little overbuild...
