I've gotten in the habit of using the blue machinists marking fluid. Between that and something pointy, I can make really nice fine lines.

Definitely picking one of these up for the big stuff though.

I have been using Soap Stone since the Dinosaurs were walking about

I venture I have enough to finish out this incarnation.

I use soap stone for general marks. Usually laying out full sized dimensions on the shop floor. When I need to layout more precise cuts, I use the markal silver pencil. It works especially well on mill scale and/or dirty/greasy metal that a sharpie normally won’t show up as well.

Markal 96006 Silver-Streak Metal Marker Round, Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HMC7JE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3.jKFbE46KTSK

I’ll admit that I keep a pencil, sharpie, silver sharpie and the markal in my shop apron all the time. One of those should usually work for whatever the hell I'm working on at any given time.

Have not been here in a while. Nice work going on here. I've finished the roof rack finally. Solar panel is installed and waiting for the weather to finish it up and fire it up.

You’re a patient man to take the time to make a battery tray. I made one once for an old 4Runner, it was easy to do but between cutting, bending, and welding, I spent more time than what it was worth. For as cheap as they are to buy, I’d rather just buy one if I ever needed another... unless there was some interesting custom tray I needed. Looks good though.

Just placed an order for this and some soapstone. My black Sharpie is pretty thick and hard to see against mill scale, so these are just what I need.

On a related note, I bought a Maxxeon MXN00810 WorkStar Cyclops that mounts on a flexible desktop tripod that we've had laying around (MAXXEON Octopus Tripod). I had bought a similar style LED light this summer that was hand held with a magnetic base, but it's pretty limited in that you can't always find a surface to mount it to that allows it to point where you want, so this tripod arrangement should be much more versatile. Plus the legs of the tripod are flexible so you can hang it from stuff. And there's another attachment you can get that holds your phone for taking pictures.

I use that silver Markal too, but I tried a few brands of paint pens, (I like yellow) and the best brand that works for me is a Markal yellow paint pen.

I use those paint pens for my installs and visual torque checks. I actually prefer yellow too, but I have white and red. You should see my toolbox, I have a drawer full of pens, markers, paint pens, china markers, chalk...

Yeah I know. This one is a little different because it's in the back and pretty open. If it was under the hood with more protection, I'd be okay. The back is open and so it turns into a 40lb missile with no walls. I'm adding another 2 tabs to secure it. lol

Got a new battery after it was starting to act up at camp and even started to have issues with low voltage sitting in the driveway. Decided to drop 20lbs on the fender and down size. New battery showed up and went to chuck it in but the Pelfrey battery cage was too big for the new one. After much drawn out procrastination built a new cage today.. Pretty happy with it.

Bought it in 2015 I believe. Back when Pelfrey was a small fabrication company putting out good work. Pics and dimensions if interested.

3/8” cut with Evo chop saw. No problem. Cool to the touch
