Looks like they closed it last weekend for some good trail maintenance as well.

 

First time posting here, what's up y'all. This past weekend I put some billies, 881s, and all pro expos under the old truck. It was sitting several inches below stock height beforehand sine I carry 400 lbs in the back full time. The leafs were frowning! I think I gained 4 inches in the back (after taking 1 leaf out of the expos) and 2.5 up front. Got some bed liner on the roof rack as well. It was starting to rust like crazy. Up next is a set of new rubber, those tires are looking tired and tiny!

 

Is that a Curt rack? Looks like one that I had. F'n thing rusted up in about 3 years, even with painting it a couple of times.

 

It is, picked it up for $50 from a guy a few years ago. Same thing happened here after having a fishing rod holder and canoe up there from time to time. I sanded it all the way down, metal primed, and put probably 3 coats of bed liner on. We'll see what happens I suppose...

 

Welcome! what made you remove a leaf from the expo pack? With 400lb of tool weight plus a cap, you may want to consider keeping that leaf. Expos are rated for 500lbs over stock weight. You may decrease the life, something to think about . Also they will settle after a while.

I am wondering if anyone else has ever had their t-case disengage (on it's own) while in use?

On a recent adventure, while hauling ass up a steep, winding, well graded dirt road, in 4hi going somewhere around ~40 mph, mine seemed to disengage when I backed out of the throttle a bit going into a corner. I both felt it and heard it. Sounded awful, like gunshot with grinding noises. I thought I had blown up the rear diff or something really serious.

Immediately pulled over and parked. It seemed to be running fine as a rolled to a stop. Upon inspection, we were unable to find anything wrong. Was bizarre.

 

Super common on manual lever models of all makes and kinds. Dunno bout electric shift like yours but it has springs, so I don't see why it still wouldn't be possible

 

Huh! Did not know that. First time for me. Is this a wear and tear thing?

 

I dunno, usually when a manual case does it, it doesn't make noise, just pops the lever into neutral. I'd almost be concerned your chain slipped or something. No great ways to test any of this crap unfortunately

 

Think quick. The hubs and knuckles/steering just sold. So axle is for part out now

 

It'll be something to keep an eye on for sure.

 

I had this (as you may both recall), though it was t-case engaging 4wd, rather than disengaging it.

When my chain was slipping I paint marked both output shafts while in 4x4 and tried climbing a steep snowbank and could hear it pop. Checked the paint marks and they were no longer oriented in the same position.

I recall you mentioning your experience when we were all gathered trying to figure out what had just happened to mine.

I drained my t-case today. No mud in mine.





This oil has about 20K on it. I would normally not change it for at least double that. But I wanted to confirm its condition based on what your experience was. As you can see, it is still in pretty good shape.
