I have 285/75/17 E rated Wildpeaks on my GX and love them dearly. Best overall tire I’ve owned for the price.

The day I first installed them. Have been in love with them ever since.

too much trimming and hacking needed. I don’t even want to cut the cab mount.

I like my 255/75R17’s, just some minor trimming needed.

For you guys that have the 470's. Would you rather have it or a LC80 in the same condition(mileage/etc)? I would love to have a LC80 or 470 for a DD. The last Toyota SUV I owned was a new 95 T4R I got when I turned 16, so I've been out of the loop for a while

    I don't need the newest, fancy gizmos(would want a 470 w/o NAV)......….just great reliability.

470 Owner chiming in. First of all the market for the 80s right now is stupid. 12-15K for a 90s Toyota that isnt locked lol.. nah man. The engine is an absolute dog. If the Head gasket hasnt been changed, better factor that into the cost of the rig as well.

    Enter the 470.

Pre VVTI are absolute Tanks, no secondary air pump failures to worry about and you dont notice (i read) the additional HP that comes with the VVTI since the gains are in the top end of the power range.

Super smooth 5 speed transmission compared to the 4-speed in the 80.

It's dead quiet inside. Mine has 204K miles and doesnt make a peep. Really love that about it compared to my 2005 tacoma armored to shit lol.

Full time 4wd just like the 80 series and although it's only got the center diff lock, i'd argue it's all about driver skill, tires, and suspension before just having lockers front and rear. You can always add those features if you want to in the 470 with ARB.

Both 120 series and 80 series get shit mileage. My 470 bone stock gets around 15-17 mpg.

All in all i went looking for a 80 series and ended up in a 470.

make sure the maint is done(radiator/timing belt/water pump) and drive it and forget it.

    I have a lead on a 97 LC80 with 175K for right $7990(around what I see 470's for) is the only reason I ask. I've never owned a fast/big HP engine, so I'll be ok with either platform :D I DD'd an 02 TJ for 9yrs....so MPG really don't matter either(Taco gets 15)

There's just some things I'd like to do to my Tacoma that may not be a quick turn around and I'd need a vehicle. I've been looking at LC/470 for a bit, just not sure if I really need one.

I do know LC parts can get expensive.....just skimmed the 470's.

    I appreciate the feedback.

80’s suck if you aren’t building a trail rig. I wanted a 100 series but wound up with my 120 (GX470), I don’t regret it at all, perfect daily driver and occasional train runs.

I'm more of an trail/camper than a crawler. It really seems like the 470 would serve better if I do decide to grab anything.

just don't be shocked when you see that good shape no rust 120's are selling for almost the same as 80's these days.

Yeah if you can score a GX470, do it! I bought mine on a whim a few years ago and it’s been a awesome ride. Between all the different trails, daily driving, camping, no truck is perfect, but this one suits almost all of my needs from A to Z. Definitely the best car purchase I’ve made in my lifetime.
