I hold those memories dear to me in my time as a scout and a leader. My eagle and the other awards mean nothing, it was the friendships, adventures, failures, and practical jokes that I remember so vividly. So many of the young men that I got the privilege to mentor and push have gone on to become so impressive and I am super proud of them. Sadly with some big $$$$ issues Philmont and other places are being threatened. I cut and ran there are days that I'm upset about the whole situation since it was a big part of my life for like 25 years. Another sad thing is that earning your Eagle scout has really lost it's luster and prestige as it once held in society.

Highly recommend this driving program for all your young drivers, we went through it this past weekend. well worth it, plenty of driving time for all the kids that were there.

Doug Herbert, NHRA drag race guy lost his 2 sons in 2008 due to excessive speed, founded this program, good stuff

We did something like that in HS, it was a split course with Health. Had these really crappy simulators it was a joke. Did that and a drivers safety program across a few weekends to get a little cheaper insurance.

Goods and services. I can see some of the individual type stuff but countries it's a little over the top especially with the little article about it they had to read didn't really align with the questions they were asked. Plus we aren't in india there really isn't horse trading as the norm like hey I'll mow your lawn if you give me a dozen eggs which is what the article hinted at.

Nope, he stopped a few years ago, which I hated, he's got the long lean body for a great swimmer. :(

Remember My youngest, Tyler that took those pics on you camera at Gorges and rode with @HrBrad8 in that muddy tunnel?
The HS swim coach told him to try out for the HS team, next year in 7th grade. We’ll see how he progresses.

By the way- Z is cutting from 170 to 145 for this Wrestling season; at 156 now, lol

I got back involved right before that happened and left when it did. Shame such a once great organization isn't long for this world.

Like a dowry program or something? Weird. Not sure how all that would fit into the curriculum. 2 goats and a chicken to marry your daughter. To me, trading was dealing in Pogs or pokeman cards or lunch items but I guess it's a new era and I'm a dinosaur.

It used to be a unique program. The BSA President that made all these ridiculous unforced errors, is now gone.

Although we are doing everything in our unit to preserve the program, it has changed. Significantly more apathy. Seems Scouts/parents are active for Scout- First Class rank requirements, then they disappear until they begin their Eagle project.

To help keep relevance during covid lockdowns, nationally, BSA began virtual merit badge programs. They were not easy, but my son did 2-3 a month and now has almost all for Eagle. He just needs to finish the requirements through First Class....

Sooo many did this; I am certain it will lead to further reductions in re-registrations in a couple years.

No not like that but like before currency or no currency type of trading. It's weird but everything is weird especially the maths. I feel like an idiot trying to explain that stuff to her.

The disappearance was partly because the "requirements" laxed for what they deem active and involved as well as a lot of the merit badges being easily taught and self studied under a "counselor". What was created was easily a system of spoofing kids after 1st class to get to eagle. With covid it even more enforced that ability to do such and even with kids passing through the ranks. The switch and much greater emphasis on STEM over the base of critical thinking, outdoors, and physical fitness made it so kids really didn't have to do much anymore. Thankfully they started to right that wrong but then the secular got another push and to quell any future issues they just caved before there was even potentially an issue. They were steady loosing a base and really did themselves in when they lost the mormons so now they are grasping for any straw possible to be financially viable.
