I was sure I saw you drive past me....

    :p

And yes there is a sweet time on the VMUTS for snow wheeling.

So some of the trails get groomed, but they ALL cross swaps and marshes. This means it takes over a month of very cold weather before they can even start grooming any of the trails.

In this month or longer of cold, it snows constantly and you can wheel on VMUTS the entire time. Since none of it is groomed for snow machines yet.

    :curls:

I cant wait for the snow this year.

Lol Oh I know that spot well...
last year I came roaring into that parking lot and hit the lake still going fast....

Didn't realize it was that deep,

the wave over the hood gave me an idea that it was too deep and I was too fast...

lol 3 crack heads and a homeless guy as well as almost all the cars in the parking lot got "washed" ,

Had to zip out of there real quick before they started bashing on my truck...

I don't think they believed my sincerity,
    when I said sorry...
(Probably because I was laughing my ass off)

    Here is another view...

love the truetrac. one example is the sandy ramp up to the rock wall on the south side of the ardbeg beach took a few tries with the open diff but now i walk up it with the truetrac. @3JOH22A is right that its weakness vs a locker is when lifting a back wheel but thats my only complaint and its rare. the yellow wire mod would probably help that somewhat. for the other 99.99+% of the time you dont have a wheel in the air its working for you whether you know it or not constantly shifting torque to the wheel with the most traction. it loves sand, snow and especially loose gravelly/rocky climbs i have noticed. situations you wouldnt really engage your locker til you were (close to or totally) stuck. highly recommended.

forum chatter i see from people who havent tried Truetracs and/or dont understand how they work is that they are bad in snow/ice conditions cause they auto lock and spin you out without warning. that might be true with autolockers but completely untrue with truetracs. they dont work that way. they dont ever lock... they arent supposed to.

everything can be broken in theory but given they put truetracs in muscle cars i doubt you could break it with a Tacoma. eaton says the truetrac will easily outlive your vehicle.

was planning on doing that but never got around to it. if i end up with another 2nd gen and keep the Truetrac i will do it for sure. as i said above would probably be great in wheel lift situations.

    YUP, that's the spot

I've seen people skating it in the winter when it freezes over. the only other spot that's just as good is Lake McMaster

Trick to everything with wheeling, be ready before it happens.

If I see something I think I might need the locker for. I simply push the button before I find out if I need it.

Dont see the point in failing to get up or through an obstacle, just because I didn't push a button ahead of time.

But that takes knowing your vehicle, it's limits, looking far enough ahead to be aware of what is coming up. Doesnt just happen over night.

*I am not bashing your beloved truetrac, whatever works, works.*

I’m a little hesitant with the front locker. I usually only engage it when it’s needed. Last resort....or when evgeny tells me. Learned from that last one though.

to be clear a locker is better for rock crawling for sure and when you truly need a locker a truetrac isnt gonna bail you out. i also think most of the people reading this thread would realize the benefits of a truetrac more often in general than a locker.

3" lift. $10K in TRD options. Richie's semi-hidden bumper, and soon his Elka suspension
I've had a similar experience to that winter wheeling north of Bancroft. We got 3 Kms into a trail that the locals wouldn't even use... One of the 4Runners at the front of the pack got so stuck on a frozen river crossing, we decided to go back to a fork in the trail to camp after we got him out.

Started snowing like hell and it took us 4 hours for 4 trucks to go 2 Kms in reverse. Couldn't turn around cause the snow was waist deep as soon as you went off the trail. It was a snow blind tour from hell, but very memorable and a story to share around the fire...

God damnit, well for those betting on what would happen to those light covers the WILDCARD happened.

Bumped the switch getting out of the truck and melted the f*ck out of them. Good thing they were the black ones that are 3x the cost to replace :frusty:

Lasted 7 days from new.. lol... fml

If we take out the cold, does that change anything? :p
isn’t it great breaking new parts because of something stupid.....don’t worry shit happens. It blows but all you can do is learn from it. Best lessons learned are usually the most expensive.....

I think with the terrain and flexibility of the event it would be a calculated risk. I think as long as everyone knows their limits and works within them it will be fine. Just like when you tried to pull an al nighter during a sleep over. Was always the one kid who couldn’t hang. No biggie.
