What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

FINALLY replaced that STUPID hood release cable, it’s been years of it sticking open

 

lol. I have a turbo rzr and it sits in my shed. If there is any water or mud you get completely wrecked. Last time I went out in it I took so much water down the mouth that I had to stop and throw up for like 5 min. It’s getting sold this month.

 

Front wheel bearing been making a racket. Finally got it fixed.

Do you think it would be easier to just cut the factory buckets off and make some new ones out of 3/16'' or 1/4''? Seems to me that it would be easier than trying to plate the whole bucket. I think it would be hard for a DIY'r to get the bucket geometry to perfectly match the factory buckets, but I could see someone like @eimkeith being able to pull it off.

 

At that point, why not just make it 3 parts? It'd be easier to nest and ship making it cheaper.

 

Well I haven't had to cut it off before..

On one hand, yes it would and likely a better solution to begin with.


On the other...you would absolutley have to remove the engine to do that so...easier? Eh..probably not overall.

 

could do that too but the gap would be smaller and tighter as one piece I think. I had to do 3 passes with a welder to get it filled right. One for each piece edge and then a center burn.

 

I didn't really think about the possibility of having to remove the engine to do so. Kinda makes me wish I would've considered this while my engine was out.

 

yeah and new motor perches while you're at it. Or gusseting the stock ones.

 

Welding in a coil bucket is no easy task.

So I know cold air intakes don’t net anything but will need one because of space reasons. Is there a dry filter version that you don’t have to oil? There was nothing more I hated on dirt bikes than having to oil and clean filters...

 

I put this one from afe into a cold air intake. You can provide the dimensions and they build it for you. Just select “pro dry s” as the filter media type.

As you said it doesn’t net any gains but I take it out every couple months, vacuum it off and toss it back in. Going on 3-4 years strong.
