    Hello fellow Taco lovers!
I just bought a 2014 SR5 4WD access cab. I previously owned a 2015 sport crew cab. This new to me 2014 is taller even in the rear than the 2015 and I cannot figure out why. I don’t know much about levels/lifts but it definitely has levels on the front. However I have been told by 2 different people that know a lot more than me about trucks that the back has no lifts. I towed a camper with the 2015 and the same hitch I used with that truck does not have enough drop for this 2014 towing the same camper.

    Thanks for your help!

Someone else will chime in but if I’m not mistaken it looks like someone added a second overload leaf to the bottom of your leaf pack, which would account for the height gain.

edit: the added leaf looks to be in between the stock overload and the rest of the leafs.

To raise some caution, it looks like they have a double spacer above the front strut which could be very sketchy.

I get why the front is higher...the spacer, but I’m trying to figure out why the rear is higher

Do you have a question or are you just telling us about your new truck?

I would have to second this, based solely on opinion. I'm too lazy right now to go out and look at mine. My leafs are a little 'flatter' than that.

    thanks folks
I will look into the added leaf. I’d rather get it back to stock.

Correct. It looks like two spacers which could be bad.

If it sits level and looks good, why not buy a hitch with a larger drop?

I think the second driver side front spacer is the 1/4" needed to deal with the Taco Lean. So there is a 1" spacer on each side that lifts 2" - and an extra bit needed on the LH side to square things. Many have done this with little or no problem. Nuts pulled down tight all around?

I don’t like the height myself and I have to drive my elderly parents around and they cannot get in and out.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is tire size. If the tires are taller than stock (30.6") they will contribute to the height increase. Maybe that was too obvious to mention.

Stock according to the sticker on the door jam was 16” and what’s on it is 17”.
I agree that there are multiple things combined to achieve the height.

That's the wheel diameter. The tire size is printed on the sidewall of the tire and will look something like 245/75R16.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_code

Typically when people add a suspension lift to a truck they also add larger tires. For example, I have a 2" suspension lift and 32.8" tires leading to 3" of increased height. I have a similar issue with my trailer hitch. If I have to tow a long ways, I will consider putting on my smaller set of more road friendly tires and go back to 2" of increased height.

So, I’ve consulted with a guy who installs these mods. There is a 3” toy tech kit. He can remove the added leaf spring and the 2” and 1” spacer from the front. He suggested leaving the 1” as a level but I am undecided.

I will occasionally be towing a lightweight camper but I’m a few years from retirement so I won’t get to do much of that right away.

    Keep the 1” level???
I would appreciate your opinions as I consider this.

Thanks so much, y’all are great!

I’d keep it as is but I understand you’re desire to change it. I would keep the 1” spacer on the front so the truck sits level.
