I only had about 25 miles on the lift when I headed out on a 360 mile trip today. I have to say for the first 100 miles I was having some serious buyers remorse. Though it tracked straight, bumps were jarring—enough that I took ibuprofen for my aching lower back. Happy to say by the time I hit 250 it was starting to feel like the new normal. For those of you who included UCAs with your kit, do they help with ride quality or just handling?

I went with Dirt King UCA’s and I’m convinced they improved ride quality.

If you want to see a huge difference in ride quality get DK LCAs too (or TC). Ditch that bonded rubber bushing for one that pivots freely and you'll get some much more out of the front end.

UCA's will help you get 3 caster which will in turn help your ride quality drastically.

Thanks guys. I will look into some UCAs. My mechanic suggested Icons--anyone have experience with those?

I've got 'vibration' at lower speeds--really anything below 40. I'm wondering if it's positive camber and I'm feeling the outside shoulder lugs on the KO2s. Anyone else had vibration issues and fixed them?

Have you done the ECGS bushing yet?

I have not. I had to do a search to find out what it was. Lots of hits in the search on ECGS--guessing it's a common problem? Looks like I'll add that to the list along with UCAs....

Seems to be the needle bearings can wear out prematurely.

Good thing is the ECGS bushing fix is fairly simple, and cheap. It's on my list too lol

I guess the question should be: has anyone with aftermarket UCAs experienced vibration?

Absolutely helped with handling. Steering more controlled. Wondering etc. Freeway is way better. Wouldn’t change anything IMO.

I read it shakes at highway speeds with stock UCA. Since this is my daily driver and a lot of my travel is highway I installed the UCA with the lift. It is night and day with this. At 70+MPH I feel no shake and she feels solid. The floaty feeling is gone and it feels more stable. No regrets on this install.

All this talk of feeling floaty and loose makes me think I might need to look into aftermarket UCAs in the near future. I know post lift once I hit about 60mph+ the steering feels lose and I hate that feeling, always having to keep my hands fairly still cause movements are too easily transferred to the steering. Alignment looks good but it's on stock UCAs , so they're only aligning it to stock numbers. Hmmm, lots of good info getting posted, thanks folks!

I'm perfectly smooth at highway speeds, doesn't wander. It's only at 10-40 mph that I've got vibration. I think it's positive camber causing me to ride on the outside edges of my tires, so I'm feeling the lugs. I appreciate the feedback. Will be checking into UCAs and will report back once they're on and tested.

4C33FBD4-9945-4682-B6F4-91FC2EEB0582.jpgI would’ve never been able to achieve these numbers on oem UCA’s. Imo some need them and some don’t. I definitely needed them. The adjustability on these is awesome.

was it hard to find a shop that knew how to adjust them, or did you get it close yourself?

Yes I had a shop I know install and adjust them. Learned a lot on here from members. Imo truck drives so much better. I know it’s some coin for uppers but well worth it in the long run.

my hope is to have this truck for a long time. from things I'd read here I thought they might not be 'necessary'--the truck drives without them, but it sounds like UCAs are a sound investment for avoiding unnecessary wear and early failures. It's not just a nice feature to make it drive better, it's protecting the investment. should have listened to the guys who were 'doing it right' and getting UCAs up front. this is my first lifted vehicle, so I'm learning. thanks for all the input!
