Never owned Wildpeaks. Are they somewhat similar to Discoverer AT3s?

I have owned Duratracs, on a 2011 Jeep Liberty. They were excellent in the snow, I got about 40k miles out of them before they were around 5-6/32nds and needed replacing. Loud road noise, but who cares, we don’t drive Mercs.

What a day! Some people are so out to lunch, it’s painful dealing with them.
What size you looking at getting ?

    Science, yo...

I'm a Geologist, I work for the Utah Geological Survey. We are part of the Utah DNR, which has a large motor pool. We have probably 10 Tacos, all 3rd gen SR5 double cab long beds now. We used to have 2nd gen DCSBs and Access Cabs.
They are great field vehicles (obviously). Most of us need to get to rugged, remote places with a bed full of gear for mapping and other research. Tacoma's are the best for that

I want to get 305/70/16 but I also don't want to lift anything while I'm still under warranty. So for now, I'm going with good old 265/75/16

I had Duratracs for 45,000 miles and loved everything about them except the road noise. Then I traded them in to Discount Tire for $30 each (about 6 or 7/32s of tread left on each) and put the money towards a new set of Ultraterrains. If the UTs handle snow and off road in a similar fashion to the Duratracs, but without the road noise, then I will be a fan for life. I have about 5,000 miles on the UTs so far (plenty of them on some rugged trails around Aspen, CO and the San Juans in CO) and I'm stoked so far. There's 6-12 inches of snow in the forecast this weekend, so I guess I'll finally find out how how they handle in the snow.

I originally got the Duratracs because my wife is a snow hydrologist, and we'd have to go to some pretty remote places in some pretty big ass mountains in some pretty terrible weather. They performed beautifully.

Well, she's also been in school for, like, a million years; and we're hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loan debt... so there are tradeoffs.

I have duratracs and really like the way they have performed. Interested to see if they work out as well as snow tires up in the sierras this winter...

Anything Goodyear is sh!t in my opinion. Wear like crap and are loud. I have Wildpeaks on my new 2020 so not enough time to do a review, but I'd do Coopers over Goodyears any day of the week.

Just replaced my KO2 with Nitto grapplers. KO2. KO2 are alright it is just that on damp roads they lose traction during take off

Figured I'd chime in...Had Duratracs on my old 4-runner and they were great. Balanced fine but they definitely were loud once they wore down just a little bit. Handled mountain snow like a champ. Fast forward to my current Taco and I just put Wildpeaks on 2 months ago. Driven about 3k miles on them and have to say I like them a lot. I got SL load rating and they are great in the rain. Looking forward to getting in some snow soon as it's starting to fly in the mountains.

I notice this with a first rainfall after a few days or more of dry. That little oil slick and K02 is interesting but after that they grip fine on pavement. Not that I would do wet tarmac racing!

Agreed. KO2 are way over hyped no doubt. Certainly not the all around best tire. Just had to go back with what I was comfortable with for now to replace the duratracs. Next time I’ll check out Nitto or Falken.

My observations from watching Falken WP comments over the past two years, is that early complaints were pretty common about poor balancing. It seems that those complaints have really tailed off over the past year and more often than not people are really happy with their WPs.

My experience with the Duratracs is that they were beasts in the snow and loose stuff. Not so great on wet streets, quite horrible for noise, and not great for balancing longevity.

I have duratracs on my Taco, my wife has wildpeaks on her GX, both are fine. Neither of us are rock crawling, mud is more of the issue for us and neither has ever had problems.

This I really think you’ll be happy with either tire but depending on your use one may benefit over the other

I've run Wildpeaks for 30K miles in Upstate NY (heavy snow/ice) and they have never let me down. Still a good amount of tread left as well.
