Good choice there until I saw the color shift. You're trying to be too much like an old Cobra mustang now which will equate to really bad reliability and inherent driving into crowds mode.

Well since it won't be getting any trail bashing for a little while (baby break) it'll be interesting what post trail ride dirt, mud, and rock rashing will make it look like.

Colorshift-->dirt-->raw metal equals 4 color appearance!

Man, getting these wheels prepped is exhausting. I want to do it right though for the best possible outcome.

I think the color shift will give it a nice pop. Worst case I’ll just change it back to black.

Did you get note cards to mask off the tire? Also don't forget to clean the inside of the wheel really well.

yeah it was several hundo for a pint. It was the mysticchrome mustangs that signuficantly brought the market price down. My buddy had a pathfinder he painted the House of Color color shifting with a metal flake silver as the base. Did it right stripping the whole thing down. Total was 15g for that paint job back in '99. The OP was just but a young toddler at that time.

Dude, HOK makes some niiiiiiice paint. Yeah I think 15k is on the low end of the spectrum of what a full car cost back then. I always forget OP is a lil' fella.

The lip of my wheel is so fucked up that you can’t slip an index card in, so I’ll just use tape.

Wheels are clean and almost prepped. I used a pneumatic 90° die grinder with a prep pad to knock down any big gouges.

Then wet sanded with 1000 grit.

Spray with dish soap and water, agitate with a brush.

rinse it off, dry with a towel and use air compressor to blow air out of any hidden grooves.

I’ll give one final wipe down with some xylene (paint thinner on steroids), tape and spray.

it’ll be self etching primer, gloss black, then the blue. Maybe some clear coat.

Fawk me sheesh I thought more of ya'll were closer to my age. Now I am really starting to feel old.
When I was at trade school I got to meet the Jon Kosmoski (Kas) and then a couple of his proteges. They were 2 brothers and for the life of me I can't remember but those 3 were so fast and efficient at painting amazing to watch.
