Better Trim for Daily Drive?

I can tell you this. Anyone who is 50 or older or has driven a lot of different makes of trucks will tell you pick any Tacoma trim you want ......there is no truck that rides better.

 

The off-road suspension is cushy like a 70’s caddy. The sport is as hard as a wedding night pecker.

 

I will be 50 soon, so keep that in mind. I have owned 22 cars myself, and driven a lot more. A buddy has a new full size Ram. It rides better than my Tacoma, which is a bone stock Limited.

 

OP, the Pro rides the best. Anyone who says different hasn’t ridden in one. 2.5” fox shocks valved specifically for the truck are head and shoulders above all the other trims, even if you never go off road.

Sport definitely outperforms OR on road. OR suspension is floppy and floaty and barely better than the hitachi shocks off road. Toyota kits out the OR the way they do knowing full well that the buyers who are really going to use it off road are going to upgrade the suspension, and those that aren’t (and just want the look and the bro decals) are never going to know what they’re missing. You buy the OR for the rear diff and the crawl control, otherwise any of the other trims are a better choice!

 

i had a new ram 1500 as a rental for a week put over 1000 miles on it and yes that truck rides and drives amazing. i love my taco but the ram sure was nice

 

Trim?

 

Regularly drive a TRD OR M/T. Had it overnight at the dealer and they gave me a Sport A/T rental....the sport was definitely quieter and felt like a much different vehicle....drove more like a car than the OR. Less floaty.

 

Try driving around in a Sport on the shit highways I drive on. You'll be in traction. I test drove both on my daily commute route and the OR was the only option. Thats why Sport owners swap in the OR suspension and not vice versa. OP, it really depends on the precise application. I know what to expect from my trucks handling and drive it accordingly. When its time to drive for fun, I pull out a different vehicle.

I have a 2017 SR5 with ~15,000 miles on it. I’m going to start by replacing the rears with the OR Bilsteins. Trying to soften up the ride a little. What do y’all think?

 

Idk about that one...my gen1 tundra rode night and day smoother, more like a full size car. I will say the tacoma handles very good, but it does ride taunt.

 

I had the same idea, but using kyb's.

 

The Off Road is quite smooth.

 

Same for me and I have an '18 Sport 4x4.

 

Doesn't nosedive? I had a 2016 Sport and now a 2020 Sport and cannot stand the suspension because it nosedives so bad. I am going to throw on some 5100's and an AAL for the lift and stiffer ride. I am used to 1/2 and beyond trucks which usually have stiff suspension.

 

Off road works great for me for streets and well off road . Didn’t much care for the suspension on the sport and found it pointless to buy a street truck to off road in .

 

A street truck? I had to settle for a Sport as I bought mine during COVID and there was literally no stock. Couldn't find an OR with the premium package let alone a manual transmission. Truck looks much nicer with color matched flares and bumpers. OR made no point to me as I will swap out the suspension, wheels and tires anyways and likely an ARB air locker. Not sure street truck is the right term.

 

What would you call then ... it’s listed and sold as street truck . Not designed for off road use . That’s why they have different tiers of the truck .

 

Go Sport. The hood scoop on mine adds extra horsepower. Thats what the salesman told me.
