It's not on the dash, but they do sell programmable shift knobs like this one: http://www.indy-cator.de/engl/indy-cator-shifter-knob.php

I've never used one, so I can't say how well they work. From what I understand from other ones I've heard about, you program it by putting it in each gear and pushing something on the knob to tell it that position is a particular gear and it knows because of the angles. I have read they can be a bit iffy, though.

True enough. I drive according to my tach, and not my speedometer.

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
It's thing for measuring Tachs, but other way than manometer. I think.

So you’re telling me when you teach someone to drive a manual, you say “Go ahead and let IN the clutch”?

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I’ve never heard anyone say it that way.

I generally use the terms "Engage" and "Disengage" so as to avoid any confusion on the whole "in/out" thing, but yes, I do explain to people when they hear that, it is incorrect.

Ya but the average driver doesn’t understand the workings of a clutch, either engage or disengage.

But they DO understand letting the clutch PEDAL out.

Call me useless but I have tried starting out from the stoplight in 3rd more than once. Followed by angry honking from the guy behind. So I’m in favor of an indicator. So the cut out pattern for the stick is an analog indicator, right? 93111F0A-6F8E-455C-B188-429C7DDFDDA7.jpg

Gated shifters are very cool. Also if I'm not mistaken, that pic is from an R8

related note. buddy had a 5 speed but put a 6 speed shift pattern knob on it. Really fucks with people. Even more-so if you have ones with the pattern at the base too so that you have double mis-matched.

You bite your tongue. A daily driver supercar with a manual and a V10! It's awesome
