The Ranger tail lights just look off to me. Not really a fan of the look. Cant comment on brightness for those, but I have MESO’s total tail light kit at home, so things should be getting brighter soon.

 

Wow that sucks man. Maybe you just have bad luck with Toyota. My 2010 Tundra has been a flawless runner since new, no issues with my wife's 2013 Lexus (sold), not so much as a squeak from the Rav4 and My 2018 Tacoma has been trouble free. Maybe i just have good luck with Toyota. I feel your pain though, every Ford I've ever owned was plagued with problems.

 

you might be right as far a newer ones, my first was a new 1987 4x4 turbo pickup that was sold at 150k miles and since then there has been 10 Toyota products and only any real problems have been the last two. I have had 5 go over 200k, so because of that history I will let the dealer & Toyota a chance to make it right

 

My ‘17 has been problem free and the most enjoyable vehicle I’ve ever owned. Plan on keeping it for a very long time. Don’t know if that makes it the best Tacoma, but I don’t typically concern myself with such pissing matches....I was bored this morning.

 

I’ve had two 2nd gens and now have a 2020 3rd gen.
My opinion.... the 2nd gen trucks are great but I prefer my 3rd gen for more than a few reasons.

 

I went from a 2004 Tacoma Extra-cab OR to my 2020 Pro. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the 1st Gen - and the new owner is loving it - but because I was going to retire this past summer I knew the Tacoma would become my daily driver and I needed the rear seat/space. I was amazed at the size difference between the 1st and 3rd Gens. I can't comment on the Gen 2s but I am loving my Gen 3.

 

I've had a few toyotas since the 70's with only one having a major engine failure that toyota took care of even way out of the warranty period back in 85. All of them went well over 100k with no other major mechanical failures, with my latest 01 4.7 tundra going nearly 300k miles before selling it....this truck still ran like it had 30k miles.

You should definitely sell it. They are fetching a premium right now and you will probably make a descent profit. Get out while the getting is good i say

Yep.... my 2005 went to 196,000 with zero problems. My wife had an 2004 Sequoia that we to 206,000 with no problems. My 2020 Taco only has 5100 as it’s not a daily driver. Hopefully the past will repeat itself.
I know some have had problems with their trucks. No manufacturer is immune.... I once bought a 2000 Honda Civic (brand new). Should’ve been a great car. But it was a basket case from day one till the end.

 

I hope you and everyone else gets a great truck that is problem free.

For me it will be how Toyota and dealer handle my problem. Right now I think I am lucky, because all of my codes are communication errors, so maybe one part and all are fixed.

if it doesn’t get taken care of, I will look at lemon law or other options and other truck manufacturers. I would love another 1st gen, but need to tow around 5000lbs a few times a year, so that lead to a new truck.

I think the 3rd gen is great because Toyota looked at the problems that owners were having with their 2nd gen trucks, and then added a minivan engine to it.

 

The third gen is my favorite Tacoma yet. It has all the good things from my old second gen and a much more fun high revving engine, better towing manners at about 6000lbs (except for reverse lol).

not to mention it comes in inferno with orange interior accents (sorry 2019+ guys)

People seem to forget what the purpose of a vehicle is.

It is to get to a destination reliably.

The 3rd gen apparently went to the lowest bidder on parts and over-bloated electronics, making it the most unreliable generation of Tacomas.

What good is a vehicle that requires a dealership service center visit frequently, and rendering it useless during that period? Guess that's why a backup vehicle is necessary if one owns a 3rd gen Tacoma.
