It was -14 in October twice last year, this looks downright tepid.

anyone got a set of 15-16'' wheels they'd let go for cheap? Nothing special, just want another set for another set of snow tires for the other truck.

I bought a set of used 16" wheels last year but they lost two of the center caps. I can't seem to find them around here and I will pay more for those 2 center caps online then I did the 4 wheels!!! Good Luck finding some

what some generic 16'' steel wheels? yeah all over the place. Just get the right lug pattern and offset/backspacing and you're good to go.

Some wheels can have issues with some types of brakes but doesn't happen a lot.

Just got back from visiting family in Bozeman and while there, wanted to get this complete 3rd Gen Suspension that I saw on FB Market so I can do the 3rd Gen SWAP on my 2nd Gen. I want to give a HUGE thank you to the folks and fellow MT Taco owners that had this. Gifted to me and made my day. This set was literally taken off a block away from the dealers I think, SUPER CLEAN.

So, I just filled up my wiper fluid with winterized solution, got winter wipers, switched to synthetic last oil change, and I have an appointment to get studded snow tires tomorrow morning. Anything else I should know about winterizing a vehicle? Garage kept if it makes a big difference. First winter here, so I'm being extra careful.

couple sandbags couldn't hurt unless you keep a fair amount of crap in the bed at all times. trucks get a little squirrely since the rear ends are so light. i have three 40ish pound bags in the Toy and four in Chevy. most auto parts stores will have them as well as Murdochs, Three Bears and some gas stations.
if its in the garage you should be fine but if you dont have a block heater and its outside you could be asking for trouble when the below zero weather really sets in.
how old is your battery? and whats the cold cranking amps (CCA) on it? cold weather can kill a battery quick. and get in the habit of turning off the radio, heater, etc so the only draw on the battery when you start is the engine.
a good snow brush / ice scraper and some gloves
if you're going to be heading out of town or off the beaten path in the winter get an oh shit kit together - long underoos, socks, hat and gloves, heavy jacket, some protein bars or other non perishable food, some water, fire starting kit, shovel, flashlight - just in case you get stuck somewhere and have to spend a night or two. I have a plastic storage tote that I keep everything in and throw it in the truck whenever i head out. I'm usually dressed appropriately for cold weather so I throw my sleeping bag in the tote as my extra insulation. And I always keep my shovel, snow shoes, and tow/snatch straps in the truck.

and do yourself a favor, if you're not used to driving in the snow head out early in the morning the next time theres a few inches on the ground - head to the Civic Center or somewhere else with a big empty parking lot. Get a feel for your truck and do some quick, turns, starts and stops to see how it reacts.
I live by the 50-50-50 rule for winter driving. Give yourself 50% more time to get to where you're going - If you're in a hurry you'll be more prone to making bad decisions and driving faster. Give yourself 50% more following/stopping distance - dont tailgate and start easing onto the brakes a lot sooner than you would in dry conditions. If you start to slide you're going to need that extra space to get yourself under control. And 50% pressure on the pedals - stomping on the gas or brakes are only going to cause problems, less is more. I don't care what people say, antilock brakes are BS and do nothing when you're sliding on ice. Toy, Runner and my old Subie would go 2 or 3 x's the distance if the antilock brakes kicked in on a patch of ice. Had to find that sweet spot in the pedal and slow down gradually but not let the ABS kick in.

Forgot to say I got 2 60lb bags too, but thanks for the tips. My battery is less than a year old, but I'll have to see if I can find its CCA. I already keep a tow strap, d rings, air compressor, and some other junk behind the seats, but I guess I'll stock it up a bit. Once I get the new tires on tomorrow I'll go and test them out in a lot somewhere. I think we're supposed to get a few inches here in Butte tonight.

Grease the drive shaft and u joints.

Pack a tow strap and battery jumper and optional chains depending on where you have to drive.

Just greased everything about a month ago when changing oil. How does the cold effect the grease? Does it harden up or shrink? And I always have a tow strap and noco jumper with me. Getting chains couldn't hurt, but shouldn't studs be ok for on road driving?

Yeah you're snow tires will be great. I have to drive in plowed county roads a lot so chains are good for if/when I put it in the ditch haha but if you don't drive those kind of roads you'll be fine.

Grease can get hard and stiff for sure. But better than the metal being dry and then shrinking onto itself. Plus ensures no crap gets in there from the snow or shit they spray on the roads.

Other pro tip don't use the ebrake. It'll freeze closed. Hell mines frozen open right now haha

Do you guys grease everything more often in the winter then? I have a bad habit of using my e-brake 99% of the time, so I'll have to keep that in mind. And I definitely dont plan on doing any winter offroading or frequenting unplowed roads for a while. I have a few more mods to do before that lol.
