They may have legal council, but it's shitty and expensive.

Threatening legal action never works. Having an attorney write both the dealer and Toyota USA asking them to take responsibility works more often than anyone wants to admit.

That being said, without pictures OP may be making a mountain out of a molehill.

The attorney may succeed where OP failed because his write up was awful. Sorry OP, it is.

Go to the Secretary of State office most states have a web site for this...look up the dealership. Since they are a corporation their agent for service of process will be listed along with their liability carrier and just file a claim with the latter in writing but be prepared to back up your claim with documentation otherwise you get shit. Option two is to file a claim with your insurer and let them chase the dealer.

LoL I did do a bit of research and finished saving up for it during time too. But, 5 years man crazy to only get a 2001? I'm happy with my 2020 truck so it was worth it.
This dude doesn't seem to know how to solve a simple repair issue either.

I remember my second gen access cab had a thing where the front door would always have to be shut harder than normal in order to close all the way. I played around with the door stryker on the door jamb on mine own and got it a little better but not as good as it should have been.

I noticed when I was as the dealer when I closed the door on a new third gen access cab it was the same way. 10+ years later and that issue still exists.

Wouldn’t it be better to just get an estimate to fix it and go to small claims?

Wait is this a 2001 truck? Or 2015? I’m confused.

It should be simple. If the dealership broke it and said sure we will fix it and didn't then go to another dealer or go to a local body shop and get an estimate. Decide if it's worth fighting over that amount. If it is go to dealership manager tell them politely and firmly you are taking them to small claims/district court for the repair cost if they don't fix it properly. They might fix it to avoid getting involved in court and taking time from business. If not take it to court.

If it's not worth the time and court fees pay that body shop to fix it and never do business with that dealership again.. I've had to do that many a few times with places. One a quick lube shop that messed up an oil pan on a honda prelude i had. They claimed they didn't do it and I could have leaked beforehand but it didn't. A new oil pan was $250 to pay a real mechanic to change it would have cost me $125 to take them to court plus miss a day of work.. so I paid the mechanic and change my own oil or pay the real mechanic. Lesson learned.

A little more information would be nice, how did it damage the paint? Where is the damage? I see the door doesn’t seem to close properly but do you have pictures with the specific paint damage?

I can see a mark above the striker and assume that’s what you’re talking about. Also it’s possible there is some scuffs on the door itself and maybe around the latch. I can also see where they moved the striker and you can now see the primer around that.

Sloppy work no doubt. Toyota probably won’t do much of anything. It’s basically between you and the dealership. Since they are telling you to go pound salt, you’re going to have to fight with them or take it on the chin. If it’s just the service dept that doesn’t want to take care of the issue and is trying to keep you out of there, I would speak to the GM of the dealership. Get them Involved if they already haven’t been. Usually they will try and make it right. Especially if you bought the truck from there. If you have dealt with them and they don’t want to help you, you can try leaving them bad surveys with Toyota. Dealers (most) take their surveys very serious. They get kick backs and bonuses on those. Both the store and also individual employees. If that doesn’t work you can leave some bad reviews online. If they care about their reputation or worry that negative reviews may cost them business then they will try and make it right with you. If those avenues fail, well then you will have to try and take them to court and will also probably need to get an attorney.
